Vintage Inspired Pittsburgh Wedding by MichaelWill Photographers

This vintage-inspired Pittsburg wedding by Michael Williams has a special place in my heart. Not just because there’s a beautiful bride in a gorgeous Monique Lhuillier gown wearing sparkling Jimmy Choo’s. Or the fact it’s held in a regal church ceremony with cathedral high ceilings and stunning floral decor. Nor is it the vintage glam reception with elegant candelabra centerpieces, breathtaking flowers or sweet vintage details. No – it’s none of those lovely elements. The reason I have a soft spot for this particular affair, is because gorgeous bride Jennifer is one of our regular readers. I always get excited when I learn Love Wed Bliss is helping to inspire a bride’s wedding vision. So when Jennifer told me she checked in to our blog regularly to help with her wedding planning, I was over the moon! Just knowing you have an audience is one thing, but what really motivates me to blog about weddings, day-in-day-out is . . . YOU!  It’s all you lovely people out there who really inspire me to do what I do. Nothing is more rewarding than helping wedding couples create their vision and bring to life their wedding dreams. So thank you Jennifer! I’m honored I could contribute (even if only in a teensy-weensy way) to your amazing day.

I came down the aisle with my father to a string quartet playing “Here I am Rock you Like a Hurricane” by Scorpions and we recessed to “Love and Affection” by the 80’s hairband Nelson. The songs sounded beautiful played by the string instruments, but it was a fun/funny way to kick things off.Pittsburgh Church CeremonyOrnate Cathedral CeilingPittsburgh WeddingMonique LHuillier Wedding GownDeep Purple Bridesmaid DressesVintage Inspired Bridal StyleVintage Inspired Pittsburgh WeddingVintage Inspired Purple WeddingPittsburgh GroomPittsburgh Real WeddingI have always loved the Duquesne Club. We chose this as our venue because it is so unique, almost like the Clue Mansion of board game fame. The building itself has a lot of history having been the social club of Magnates like Mellon and Frick, so it was a nice little slice of Pittsburgh History. As a member, you can have access to the entire club so it was great for our guests to be able to enjoy everything it has to offer. Cocktails took place in the solarium followed by dinner upstairs in the ballroom and then back down stairs for dancing, cocktails in the solarium and games in the billiard room until 1:00am.Vintage Inspired Wedding CakeReception Floral Arrangement IdeasVintage Inspired Wedding TablesOur inspiration for the wedding was really the old-world grandeur of the club, so we went with a turn of the century/English garden vibe. We both love purple, so we chose that as the accent color for font on our invitations, bridesmaid dresses and flowers. For the most part our color palette was very soft and romantic with cream, porcelina and blush flowers and mushroom silk linens. The ballroom at the club has beautiful murals on the walls, and the high-low candelabra centerpieces with tons of candlelight really accented them well. Beyond the centerpieces, the floral show stopper was the arrangement our awesome florist, Bill Chisnell, did on the top of the fountain in the Solarium. Beautiful. I also loved the escort card table he did with bunt moss, purple echevaria and tea lights.Vintage Inspired Wedding IdeasMoss Covered Escort TableVintage Inspired Wedding ReceptionDuquesne Club WeddingDuquesne Club Wedding ReceptionVintage Inspired Bride & Groom

What was your vision for your wedding?

Richard and I both love fall so we knew right away that we wanted to get married in September (“September” by Earth, Wind and Fire is also a favorite song and was the party starting song of the night) in my hometown Pittsburgh, PA. We live in DC but I have pretty much always known that I wanted to get married at the Duquesne Club so a hometown wedding was a must.

Did you include any DIY or personalized details?

I did several DIY things such as making our programs, favor bags (fresh mini donuts around midnight), welcome bags and our guest book table that included a typewriter filled with flowers, a runner made of wrapping paper and a re-purposed Italian wine box (a nod to Rich’s mother who is from Italy) as the card box. Given that our event was in such a formal setting, we wanted to make sure it still spoke to our personalities so the addition of a photo booth and a killer party band was a must.

What were your favorite moments?

My favorite part(s) of the day were my dance with my father because we really broke it down and had so much fun and the best part was walking down the aisle with my HUSBAND as all our friends and family cheered us on. Hands down best day of 28 years and the year and a half of planning was well worth it.

Thank you Jennifer for sharing all the beautiful details of your elegant wedding.
