Styling Details

From the photographer: Simplicity was key for us in designing this pretty Summer/Spring shoot. We wanted it to incorporate glitter and sequinned elements in a summery garden setting. Choosing three colors – blush, mint, and gold within the pastel family – we focused on delicate and elegant details accented with gold. We featured a real life couple who just had their one year anniversary and still looked at each other like the day they were married.

The table was set with a satin mint colored linen and topped with a sheer featuring shimmering strands of gold. It was anchored by a grand candelabra floral centerpiece incorporating spring blooms of blush and white roses, white hydrangeas, rich green succulents and dangling mosses. Simple mercury glass votives and blush glass vases sat alongside a couple of sweet paper maché birds. Simple gold chargers were the resting place for china featuring delicate floral pattern highlighted by gold cutlery, ivory floral napkins, and paper menu. Gold chivari chairs were adorned with delicate strands of satin, grosgrain, and sparkly ribbons to bring a decidedly whimsical and spring like quality to the setting. Our invitation suite which included invitations and RSVP cards, seating cards, paper menu, and table number was created using blush, gold, and pastel mints with a graceful floral design.

The bride donned an Allure gown with an asymmetrically rouched bodice and deep v neckline. To complete the look we pulled in a gold satin ribbon tied around her waist and topped it with a sparkling rhinestone bridal belt from Belts by Marital Bridals. Belt and veil were be found at LA Bridal Boutique.

Wood Nymph Wedding Theme

Wood Nymph Wedding

Every girl wants a fairytale wedding. Some want to feel like a princess, whilst others may want to feel like a fairy… either way, it’s all about a girl feeling magical on her wedding day, and a wedding theme such as this should just about do it! This beautiful and mysterious Wood Nymph wedding inspiration by Paul Douda Photography will not only delight your senses, it will also have you dreaming of warm Summer nights, decadent luxury, and romance under the stars. Be prepared for a woodland treat and your ‘inner fairy’s’ little heart to skip a beat!

From the photographer: I wanted to focus on a wedding with earthly magic seen though the eyes of a mysterious wood nymph. At a time when the heat of summer begins to wane, the leaves transform their colors, earthly creatures begin harvesting and preparing for the bitter cold of winter. I choose the wood nymph as my theme for their playful earthly focus, but also for it’s mystery and magic. I represented this theme by using earthly products or mimicking them where ever I could. For example we used birch and vines as an alter, wood benches for seating and the ceremony itself in the woods. The reception used wood tables and benches, moss runner, wood candles and vases, branch silverware, wood slabs for chargers and the table scape itself being set under a large tree. We also had a moss swing with vines, shoes covered in leaves and flowers, deserts centered around berries and apples, menus in the form of a maple leaf, as well as an organic game centered menu. We conveyed mystery and magic though dramatic makeup for our model, dry ice in drinks to create a potion effect, and a complex layered ethereal gown. I choose the name Edmund Mountbatten for our groom; Edmund being a common princely first name and Mountbatten being a Royal English Surname. I choose the name Rusalka Wood for our bride; Rusalka being literally translated to Wood Nymph in Czech and Wood referring to our focus. As a wedding planner there are certain design themes that you always dream about creating. For me this was one of them and I am so very pleased with the final product, the process and the entire experience. I hope you enjoy experiencing it as much as I enjoyed creating it.

{Guest Post} Rain or Shine: Chocolate Wedding Cakes for Every Season

You don’t have to twist my arm too hard, to get me to eat chocolate! In fact, I LOVE good quality chocolate in any shape or form – especially decadently beautiful cakes. That’s why when Zucchero Patisserie sent over this wedding cake feature, I knew I was in a heap of trouble. The “I-won’t-stop-for-anyone” chocolate-binge kind of trouble! Yep. Damn it!…there’s goes my diet again!

Calling all chocolate cake lovers! If your ultimate indulgence is cocoa-based, a chocolate wedding cake is the only choice for your big day. Your wedding is all about celebration and indulgence, making chocolate the ultimate matrimonial treat.

With the demise of the traditional white marzipan-and-fruit cake concoction (which, let’s face it, isn’t the scrummiest or most exciting of options) a whole new era of wedding cake creativity has been ushered in. We now have more choice than ever and this can be fantastic, but also more than a little confusing!

Way back when, fruit cake was the only established option and you didn’t have to worry about whether your guests would enjoy it, what it said about you and your relationship, whether it was in keeping with your ‘theme’ or even whether your cake was right for the season.

Don’t panic! The expert purveyors of chocolate at the creative Zucchero Patisserie have come up with some delicious chocolate wedding cakes everyone will love, perfect for all styles and seasons.

Light and Lovely Chocolate Cakes for Spring Weddings

The spring is a favourite time for weddings. It’s warm, but not scorching, nature is just beginning to burst back into life. As a time for fresh beginnings and fertility, it’s perfect for your big day, but how do you choose the perfect chocolate cake for a spring wedding?

Floral flavours are particularly fashionable at the moment. Rose, lavender, violet – these delicate flowers have romantic associations which are ideal for your big day. You’ll need to select a delicate chocolate too, so as not to overpower the floral notes. Choose a high quality white or milk chocolate with a relatively low cocoa content and make sure your pâtissier knows how to blend the flavours perfectly – this is a tricky one to get right!

Zesty Chocolate Cakes for Summer Weddings

The key to a perfect chocolate summer wedding cake is to inject a little zest and to play with the chocolate options available to you. A really dark 70% cocoa chocolate alone will be much too heavy for a hot summer wedding, one option is to incorporate fruit into your recipe – citrus fruits in particular offer a zesty edge which can turn an over-heavy dark chocolate cake into a tangy, refreshing summer treat.

Raspberry works particularly well with dark chocolate and Seville orange is also especially scrumptious. Take care not to overcomplicate though – too many flavours can really overdo it, leaving your guests with a funny taste in their mouth. One strong flavour to balance out the chocolate is often more than enough to tantalise taste buds. A flavoured liquer can also be used to add an extra, sweet dimension to your concoction. For dark summer chocolate cakes consider Grand Marnier syrup or Cointreau.

Meanwhile, if you’re considering a less intense summer chocolate choice, white chocolate and strawberry  cake with a champagne syrup is particularly yummy. Perfect for a hot summer’s day.

Sweet, Autumnal Wedding Cakes

As the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, autumn is prime time for a lovely nutty chocolate cake, with all the delicious ingredients nature has to offer. Think hazelnut, almond, pistachio, cherries and warm, wholesome flavourings like cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. A spiced chocolate orange cake is also a divine option. If you’d rather leave out the healthy stuff, a praline chocolate concoction is also divine and is guaranteed to be well received. A Ferrero Rocher wedding cake, who could resist?

Rich, Indulgent Winter Wedding Cakes

Winter is the perfect chocolate cake season. The richer your wedding cake, the better! With the nights drawing in and the weather giving everyone the chills, indulgence is the order of the day. Choose your very favourite chocolate and then double it, triple it! (If you’re a chocolate lover with a twist, try combining dark or milk chocolate with a chilli kick for an extra warming touch – be warned though, not all of your guest will be so adventurous!)

When it comes to pure chocolate wedding cakes, chocolate quality is essential, whether you’re a white chocolate fan or a dark chocolate diva, choose the very best chocolate available, with a good cocoa content, and your wedding’s centrepiece will leave everyone with a smile on their chocolate-covered faces!

Bride Lauren Shares  The Details:

Theme

I knew I wanted a warmer weather wedding. I love summer and couldn’t even imagine getting married when it was cold! When I thought about my wedding, the words I used were “classic, simple but elegant, clean lines, and fun.” So to me, white and yellow encompassed all those things. I had originally thought about adding orange, but in the end, the white and yellow kept it the most simple and made the biggest impact.

Ceremony

Our ceremony was at St. Andrew’s Church in Newtown, PA. Unfortunately, my church I grew up in was under construction and wasn’t going to be ready in time. But a lot of my friends went to St. Andrew’s and it’s a beautiful church and was close to me so that’s why we went there.

Flowers

The flowers I chose were callas and lillies for the most part. They were so classic and frankly, looked beautiful in white and yellow. My bridal bouquet was all yellow callas and lillies, plus a few other things, and the bridesmaid bouquets were white and yellow. Our centerpieces were also yellow and white flowers with water and candles.

Bridesmaids

I wanted the look to be classic and a little vintage. The girls dresses (from Priscilla of Boston) had cream lace at the top and yellow chiffon at the bottom with a black silk ribbon added to the waist to match the guys. They wore black satin peep toes to match the ribbons and pearl earrings (no necklaces). The guys wore black tuxes with bow ties and cummerbunds. They also had white callas boutonnieres and my husband had a yellow one.  For gifts, each bridesmaid received a purse they could use on the wedding day (2 girls got yellow, two got white, two got white crochet with flowers, and one got black), as well as a cream fabric ring with mini pearls in the middle which they all wore on the day as well.

Summer Wedding Tent MarqueeYellow and White Ceremony ProgramsYellow and White Wedding

Bride’s Style

I wanted to encompass a vintage feel to my look too. I had a bird cage veil and red satin shoes! (I thought about wearing red lipstick but decided it would be too much!). My dress was very simple and classic with a bow on the back to give it a modern touch.

DIY Details

I made our seating chart. I used a huge foam board and covered it in yellow and white patterned fabric which I bought from Mood. I hand wrote everyone’s names on the outside of mini envelopes and wrote their table numbers on the inside. Then, I got pins with yellow balls on them and, after painstakingly measuring the distance between each envelope, pinned them to the board alphabetically. I also did the favors myself. I bought the jars, filled them with yellow candy and glued little flowers on top. I also spray painted my B and G chair monograms. I didn’t have too much DIY – I’m not that creative!

Reception

I knew I wanted to be outside (again, Summer girl!) and under a tent. So the reception took place at the Pearl S. Buck Estate which was beautiful and secluded with really really pretty grounds. It’s a huge almost farmland like property with green grass and big trees. Our tent was super nice too compared to many others. What also grabbed me was the cobblestone patio in the back of the house where our cocktail hour took place. Luckily, it didn’t rain during cocktail hour!  My favorite part of cocktail hour (and most of the guests) was the lemon martini bar. I think it was the only thing people drank for that whole hour!

Decor

After much debate, we decided to decorate the tent using draping on the ceiling and lights. It was so beautiful and elegant and made everything feel more romantic. We used all white linens with square plates (clean lines!) and for a pop color on the tables (besides the flowers), we displayed lemonheads in jars. It definitely added color to the table along with our menus which also had yellow on them. However, I tried not to put too much on the table because I didn’t want to to look busy. We also donated to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and put a note the bottom of our menu cards to let guests know. Oh! I also had square tables and I loved them. This way, I could have 8 people at a table, couldn’t squeeze in any more, and again, clean lines (haha). Lastly, I spray painted a white birdcage (it was a real one), which I bought and asked the florist to put flowers on it – this was my card holder. It was huge! Stand up!

Biggest Challenge

I think was really the whole church thing was my biggest challenge. Not being able to get married in your childhood church was hard for me, and we didn’t make the decision until last minute! Also, our original guest list was about 320 people. So while I didn’t have control over it, we wanted to get it down! We ended up having 230 people.

Highlights

The absolute best part of my wedding was the band. They were amazing. Everyone was literally up dancing at the start of the salads until the very end. There was a noise ordinance where we were, so they had to stop playing at 10pm. Well, people wanted to keep dancing, and a “One More Song” chant came about ha ha. It was just so fun. They played upbeat, fun dance songs the whole time and were just amazing. And of COURSE marrying my best friend! He luckily is very easy going so he didn’t have too much opposition to the things I picked ha ha. I am one of 25 cousins and the first to get  married, so everybody was in a great mood and was just so excited and happy. It was truly one of the best days ever.
