Renewal of Vows French Country Style by Belle Momenti Photography

After three days of extensive Asian/Western wedding celebrations, Aaron and Sheena, who were unable to fulfill their ambition of marrying abroad, decided that they would one day renew their vows in a more intimate setting. Through their mutual love of travel, culture and all-things European, they decided that the location should be in an authentic, real-life fairytale castle – Château des Buis, situated in the Rhones/Alps region of France. At nearly 850 years old, the Château is steeped in history and filled with French ambience and tradition, giving Aaron and Sheena the intimacy they were seeking, with breath-taking views over the surrounding countryside.

From the photographers: In the morning, the venue’s hair and makeup artists arrived at the Château to help Sheena create her bridal look whilst Aaron relaxed with his best man. After some individual stylized photographs the couple renewed their vows in the beautifully renovated stone Orangerie, which had been decorated for an intimate ceremony.

The couple lit a Unity Candle to mark the occasion, witnessed by their two best friends, before making their way to the beautiful fresco adorned coach entrance for confetti throwing. Afterwards, Aaron and Sheena were photographed in all of the key locations in and around the Château – from the wonderful gated courtyard to the classically beautiful staircase, opulent bridal suite and ‘Salle de Freques.’ Sheena was even captured throwing her bouquet of red roses from the tower to her Prince below in a gesture of pure romance!

Aaron and Sheena then moved into the Écurie, for a lavish yet intimate reception meal with their friends and an appropriate toast of the Château’s own Grand Cru Rose wine. After cutting their cake – a chocolate gateau covered in a Chantilly cream icing – the couple fed each other ‘Tart au praline’ – a delicious specialty of the region. Unbeknownst to the happy couple, their family and closest friends had contacted the Château beforehand, to offer their congratulations and loving wishes. Lucy, the Château’s dedicated wedding planner, transferred these messages to handmade labels and tied these with coloured ribbons onto a wishing tree…adding a further surprise to their day!

To end the celebrations, Sheena changed into her Asian wedding dress, which she wore on her wedding day, before joining Aaron to dance under the candle lit lanterns that Lucy had arranged for them. Finally, after a night’s stay in the Château’s bridal suite, they were awakened with yet another personal touch – a champagne breakfast complete with croissants from the local artisan bakery.

From the photographer: Maggie & Haydex met during their undergrad at UBC. They did the same degree so shared many of the same classes. They had been good friends for 4 years before they started dating. Haydex’s original plan was to propose to Maggie on a romantic getaway to the Sunshine Coast. However Maggie found out about the ring before they went on their trip. At the end, he proposed in her bedroom and she said yes!

Romantic Country Wedding Ideas

Up next is an inspiration shoot captured by Alea Lovely Fine Art Photographer which takes your typical rustic country wedding theme, infuses it with a whole-lot-of romantic style and classical old world elegance. With sherbet hued florals by the Victorian Gardens, a stylish invitation suite by Announce This, a gorgeous array of pastel ombre cakes by Classic Cakes and a beautiful gown by Ivy & Aster with a beaded cape we are sighing over, this shoot is not only bursting with fabulous ideas but writes a whole new chapter on vintage country chic and we’re LOVING it to bits!

From photographer Alea: A little bit of country, a little bit of elegance. I am from the Midwest and wanted to show a new way to do a Midwestern affair. We got away from the rustic look and found a more romantic way to fit this wedding. With bright colors and eye catching details, my team and I put together a styled shoot that a bride from any region could get on board with.

I loved the cake table. The three cakes with ombre details and soft pastels was a new spin on the traditional one cake. Stunning florals accented the unfinished wooden top table and the “bride and groom” mannequins brought a very unique accent to the table. The dress by Ivy and Aster was a great complement to the shoot. I was going for something elegant that could also be very casual. With laser cut layers and a gorgeously detailed beaded cape, it was a super light and airy gown and also perfectly falls in line with the bridal fashion trending right now. I had her hair done with lighter extensions to accentuate the ombre in her hair. Our hair stylist created gorgeous curls that looked effortless in the wind, and we gave her a rusted golden hair piece to pin back her hair, a nice accessory that wasn’t too overbearing. She wore flat gold tin earrings that complemented her hair, and bronzy makeup.

The ceremony area was in an open field with the center stage being wooden poles, much like you see on a country home, and decorated with florals and hay like accents. I chose mismatched chairs as a fun way to play up an intimate ceremony. The reception table was a worn blue table and we used purple napkins to contrast the colors of the florals. Old silverware was placed next to the gold-lined plates for a subtle juxtaposition of classic and antique. There were great food details like the mini open fruit pies, pecan desserts, and a peach signature drink with actual sliced peaches in it. The invites were watercolor with a modern approach to the RSVP card.

Bride & Groom Barbie & Scott share:
Our Love Story:

Although we first met in our thirties, the universe was conspiring to bring us together since we were teenagers. We were both born and raised in western Pennsylvania, both attended classes at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and both sang along at the same Tom Petty and Lollapalooza concerts. But fate finally got its way in the summer of 2007, when, after a string of bad first dates, I [Barbie] signed up for While sorting through the volume of e-mails, a charming singer-songwriter with a fun sense of humor and common Pennsylvania background attracted my attention. Evident in our first conversation was a spark and bond which has only grown stronger over time.

Wedding Style:

We live and work near Washington, DC; however, we both grew up in small towns and our hearts are in the country. Our preferred happy hour spot is on the deck of our favorite winery, overlooking the Virginia mountainside. Our home is filled with objects that juxtapose modern touches with a vintage country feel, and we wanted the same for our wedding. We chose Cedarwood in Nashville to help us create our dream wedding reflecting our sense of style – an intimate and personal elopement ceremony with our own vows.

Wedding Rings:

From Barbie, The term “cocktail ring” emerged during Prohibition, when women wore large, bold rings to illegal cocktail parties. My engagement/wedding ring is an original domed cocktail ring, handcrafted of diamonds and platinum in 1925, during the height of Prohibition.

Why Did You Chose to Elope?

We chose Nashville for our wedding, because it was where we took our first vacation together, and it already held special memories for us. We eloped so that the day was just ours, with no distractions, no duties but to each other. Of course, it was still important for us to choose a beautiful venue and plan a unique event, and Cedarwood offered the perfect tranquil setting. Linda and Jessica and the team at Cedarwood exceeded our expectations with so many breathtaking details and the amazing way they brought to life our vision for our wedding day. We plan to relocate to Nashville eventually, and want to anchor our marriage in the place we will one day call home.

Tell us about the song  for your Ceremony?

The song called “Without You” was written by our friend Dave Pahanish. Dave and Scott have been friends for about ten years, and the first time we heard the song, it struck a chord with us. We related immediately to the message and theme of the lyrics that all the trappings of success are meaningless without the one you love by your side for life. This song went to the top of the charts when it was recorded by Keith Urban.

What inspired the song Scott wrote and sang to Barbie at the wedding?

The song is called “Way With Words,” and it was written by Scott several years ago, not long after he and Barbie first met. From Scott, “The theme of this song is simple – a boy proposes to the girl of his dreams, and she says, ‘yes.’ I wanted to sing this song to Barbie on our wedding day, because she made what I created out of music and lyrics come true for me.”

Favorite Memories

From Scott, “The day was perfect in every way. The setting was amazing, the weather was beautiful, the photographer made us laugh and feel comfortable. We loved walking down the path in the woods to the nature preserve where we laughed, acted silly and just enjoyed each other.”

From Scott, “It was really hard to keep my back turned, away from the path where Barbie would be walking. Of course, I had yet to see her in her wedding dress, and I was trying so hard not to sneak a peek! Then I heard the photographer start to snap away, and the minister said, ‘There she is.’ When I turned around and saw her walking toward me with her flowers and beautiful smile, it made me jump a little on the inside.”

From Barbie, “Our vows were so special. We wrote them ourselves and managed to keep them a surprise for each other until the ceremony. I made sure to add a touch of humor to help keep the tears at bay. I was so touched by Scott’s words, and I remember thinking how beautifully he painted a picture with his vows, just like in his songs.”

From Barbie, “I’m a huge believer in signs from the universe. We had already been given the gift of a gorgeous, sunny day. Then, while we were taking photos in the nature preserve, Krystal, our photographer, found a four-leaf clover and gave it to us for good luck. It was one of those serendipitous perfect moments.”

What’s next for the bride and groom?

Right now we are in the process of planning a very special celebration of our marriage with friends and family in September. We love Nashville, but the nation’s capital is our home, and we will be hosting our reception in the heart of DC’s wine country ~ at Grandale Farm in Loudoun County, Virginia. We are big fans of locally and sustainably sourced food, and this venue grows 80 percent of the produce on its menu. We are also members of a local winery, so we’ll be serving the best food and wine our region has to offer.

Bride Kara shares the details:

Wedding Theme & Colours

Our wedding theme was classic and romantic with a few unique touches. The color palette was spring blues and greens with classic gold and creme.

Wedding Fashion

My wedding dress was a fit and flare style with a simple bodice, underlay and train. It featured origami like rosettes attached to the flared skirt. My bridesmaid dresses woree knee length taffeta dresses in a soft shade of spring blue/green.

Wedding Reception

The most important aspect of our wedding was to create a classic and romantic feel with a fun atmosphere for our family and friends! I envisioned an outside location, but because our wedding was held right in the middle of Spring, I was nervous about the weather. My mother and I visited at least 10 places around Austin before choosing Austin Country Club. The country club is beautiful both inside and out with the golf course overlooking Lake Austin and the lush grounds of the country club. It was the ideal venue to achieve my desire of the perfect mix of outdoors and in.

Decorations & Flowers

The wedding decor was carefully placed but not over the top. We splashed the entire room from tables to window sills with candles. We also had up lighting around the walls and the band brought a great light setup for the stage. We also chose several combinations of flower arrangements to add some height and variety on each table. We incorporated silver/gold mercury glass cups filled with flowers to go along with tall glass arrangements. We chose flowers like white and green hydrangeas, white frizzled tulips, white cala lillies, and green bells of Ireland which spoke for themselves.

Wedding Cake & Favours

We decided to only give out koozies as a favor at the rehearsal dinner. For the wedding cake, I wanted something simple with a unique twist. I chose a cake with flowers cascading down the front to imulate my flowers on my wedding dress. Miranda Lambert used the same cake a few months later!!!

DIY & Personalized Details

We had a few personalized details throughout the weekend. First, my husband surprised his groomsmen with seersucker suits and they wore the jackets at the rehearsal dinner. I had Kendra Scott earrings customized and created for my Bridesmaids to wear on the wedding day. They also received a white button down with their initial monogram on the left upper chest to get ready in on the day. At the reception, we created an arrangement to look like a dogwood tree (state tree of Missouri) and displayed it in the front foyer in memory of my family. There were candles hanging from the chandelier above it.

What made your wedding unique?

THE BAND! They were an awesome band called Nash Vegas Allstars. My parents had seen them play in Branson and we had to have them. They had never even been to Austin before my wedding. They had the entire crowd on the dance floor all night!

What was your biggest challenge?

Making sure everything at the venue was arranged on schedule. I did use a wedding planner who only started a couple months before the wedding. In hindsight, I probably should have employed her from the get go!

What were your favorite moments?

At the altar, Anthony forgetting to repeat his lines after the pastor because he was just staring into my eyes. Also, dancing the night away with our friends! Our friends still to this day say how much fun they had at our lively wedding!

How would you sum up your wedding day?

It was just a relaxing, warm and celebratory day where we could really feel the love from those we love!
