Red and Ivory Vintage Wedding Style

It’s another gorgeous week of wedding inspiration here at Love Wed Bliss with this elegant red and ivory vintage wedding style shoot by Jim Vetter Photography. It seems you can’t go wrong when you combine classic Audrey Hepburn style with vintage accessories and sophisticated tableware. Infuse a pop of red with a beautiful rose bouquet and you’ve got yourself one stunning vintage look.

Red and Ivory Vintage Wedding Style

Photographer Jim shares the inspiration: I love Amy-Jo Tatum’s classic designs which harken back to Audrey Hepburn days. These styles just seems so well suited to the deco feel of the Hotel Shattuck Plaza in Berkeley, California and it really turned out well with a great team of vendors. The ballroom set features the designs of Tamiko Garner of All Thing Simple and the lighting designs of DJ Jason Mitchell. They layered a contemporary finish onto the classic lines of the gorgeous Shattuck Ballroom. Laura Urbina and the rest of the Shattuck staff were a great pleasure to work with. The Bridal Suite settings were really driven by the beautiful interior designs of the suite provided by the Shattuck. If only every wedding day began in such a suite! The bedroom provided large windows and French doors by which to light our stunning bride. And of course the lavish king bed gave us the perfect way to complete the shoot.

Our Dating Story (Her version)

It all began on a snowy evening back in January of 2010. We met through mutual friends at a local ski resort while enjoying a country music band and a few cocktails. What started off as a harmless conversation, talking about “business,” led to 10 months filled with thousands of text messages (technology has really put a damper on the romance of pursuing a significant other), a few late night phone conversations, the occasional happy hour BUT never an actual date. That all changed on Christmas of 2010. We spent the evening together playing cards, exchanging gifts, drinking wine, sharing stories and having what would be one of the best nights of both of our lives and the start of the next chapter in our love story. That “official” first date came three days later.

Long distance was a word that we knew all too well. From the time we met until the time we were engaged, we never lived within 2 hours of one another. Distance never seemed to keep us apart though. Our evenings were filled with Skype sessions and our weekends with trips to Philadelphia and State College…there was also the occasional weekday trip as well. Crazy kids, you just couldn’t keep us apart! That distance that we always seemed to complain of proved to make our relationship even stronger. Fast forward a year and a half later. Ashley had won a trip though work to Las Vegas.

The Proposal (His Version)

Getting ready for dinner that evening, I had the entire proposal planned out. After a great sushi dinner, we were going to walk down the strip to the Bellagio to watch the fountain show. I had the exact time of our show, 7:20 PM. All of the day’s commotion to this point had me worked up: getting a ring from Pennsylvania to Las Vegas through airport security without Ashley knowing was quite the task. Every ten minutes I checked my wallet to make sure the ring was still in place. I was a nervous wreck and Ashley kept asking, “Honey, is something wrong? Are you not having fun?”

We arrived at dinner around 5:30 at Sushi Roku, and I was constantly checking my watch; we couldn’t be late for the 7:20 show. Anyone who has the slightest clue about me knows that I absolutely love to eat. I picked at our meal and barely finished my drink. Ashley asked, “Honey, don’t you feel well? Is your dinner not good?” Again, I told her I was tired from the long day. We paid our bill and started our venture down the strip towards the Bellagio. The timing appeared to be just right; we would arrive a few minutes before the show to get the perfect spot.

As we arrived at the fountains, I looked for the perfect background to have our picture taken as I proposed. We were in place, and I spotted what appeared to be a tech savvy couple I would ask to take our picture. By this time I had the ring in my front pocket, checking every ten seconds to make sure it was in place. The show was set to begin, and I asked the couple to take our picture as the fountains started. After handing them the camera, I removed the ring from my pocket and walked over to Ashley. I went down on one knee and popped the question. Immediately Ashley placed her hands on her face and repeatedly asked, “Are you serious!? You’re kidding me! This can’t be real.” After asking her a second time I said, “Ashley, please don’t make me ask you again!” She finally said YES and I placed the ring on her finger. I came to my feet and we kissed, taking in the moment as the camera snapped away. This was the start to the best vacation and the rest of our lives together!

Ciao Bella’s!  Be prepared to be swept up in an Italian romance with this stunning destination wedding overlooking Lake Como in Italy from Belle Momenti Photography. The entire wedding day embodies a relaxed, romantic Italian day with stunning lake views, a simple yet elegant colour scheme of classic ivory and coral, and an Italian feast fit for a King! So many couples dream of a romantic destination wedding in Italy for their special day, and this lovely pair were lucky enough to fulfill that dream and create an amazing atmosphere their guests they’ll cherish forever.

With century old gardens and tiered terraces leading down to the lake, it was the perfect setting for a romantic outdoor ceremony.

After walking down the aisle to Evan Cassidy’s “Songbird” their Italian ceremony was translated by their wedding planner with readings by family members to personalise the ceremony.

Coral and ivory roses were featured in the bride’s and bridesmaid’s bouquets, in the ceremony table decor, and for rose petals lining the aisle. After the ceremony guests were served an aperitif of gorgeous parma ham, scallops and mini pizza served with prosecco (Italian white wine).

They also managed to include a little celebrity spotting cruising by George Clooney and Louis Walsh’s villas!  After two hours of taking in the sights, they made their way back to the Villa to devour a delicious 5 course Italian wedding breakfast.

A scattering of table diamantes were also added for a touch of sparkle. Instead of table numbers, the bride’s Aunt designed and created table signs and place cards for each table with each table named after an Italian city. She also made a table planner to co-ordinate with the ‘Italy’ themed stationery.

For wedding favours, personalised bottles of olive oil bottles were given to each guest. Finally, as the sun set over the lake, hanging candle holders were lit to beautifully set the romantic scene. As luck would have it, an amazing thunder storm with bolts of lightening lit up the sky at 11pm creating a free firework display for everyone to admire over stunning Lake Como!

We asked lovely bride Julie to share with us:

Did your wedding include any personalised details?

We had our invitations designed as a passport which enabled us to include a lot of great details including a ‘Learn Italian’ section and RSVP’s in a luggage tag design!  On the day, the groomsmen all wore handmade suits which were personalised with their name and Lake Como 2011. We also made sure to include the guests in our day by asking each of them to request a song as part of their RSVP. All the songs were played at some point throughout the day and it worked really well.

What challenges did you experience planning a wedding in Italy?

There were small problems mostly due to the language barrier but calling on the phone rather than emailing, usually resolved that! We also decided to use a wedding planner – originally to help with the paper work requirements to wed abroad – but they were extremely helpful in all aspects of planning the day from the location and venues, photographer and flowers, and all the ceremony and reception details.

What were your favorite moments?

During the wedding breakfast and the boat trip we were able to really sit back and take it all in as well as watch everyone else enjoy the day. Everyone always says your wedding day will fly by. It really does! So I’m really glad we were able to absorb it all and remember such great memories from those moments.

How would you sum up your wedding day?

We had the most amazing wedding day. We were very lucky to have so many of our friends and family with us to share our special day and becuase of this we wanted to make it a unique experience for everyone who attended. From the traditional Italian food (which blew us away), to the beautiful scenery and amazing boat trip, I hope we achieved our goal!

Thank you Julie and congratulations on an amazing wedding day! Thanks also to Belle Momenti for beautifully capturing the essence of the day!

Peppers Moonah Links Resort Wedding by Sorrento Wedding Photography

This elegant Melbourne soiree at the Peppers Moonah Links Resort by Sorrento Wedding Photography has so many beautiful elements I don’t know where to begin – the gorgeous black and ivory colour palette? The charming Mornington Peninsula scenery mixed with black tie elegance? The unique (and I’m sure very delicious) marshmallow love knot wedding favours? So many lovely details in this Australian beauty, it’s impossible to decide what I love most. Which means, I only have one choice; to spend the day browsing back and forth through all the lovely images.

Bride Justine shares the details:

Wedding Vision: Our key objective was to have a relaxed wedding; where everyone would have a great time, as well as a classic and elegant feel for the day.

Wedding Venue: Damien and I are Melbourne based, as are his family. However my family and friends are in Sydney. This led to some challenges from a venue perspective. Originally we wanted to get married at one of Mornington’s fabulous wineries; however, we required a venue with ample accommodation which bought us to Peppers Moonah Links. It’s such a beautiful venue, plus it has a marquee which was a big win for me. What Marquee wedding isn’t amazing?! We had hoped for an outdoor ceremony with our celebrant who performed a magic trick at the end; unfortunately due to wet weather we had to move inside for the ceremony. In all honesty it worked to our advantage as it provided an intimate feel to the ceremony.

Colour Palette: I’ve always been a fan of black so it was an easy choice for the bridesmaid dresses; it also balanced out the boys black suits in the wedding pictures. As black can be very heavy we used white to lift; which tied in perfectly with the white marquee for the reception.

Decorations & Flowers: For the décor we used black tablecloths with white plates, and for a touch of elegance we added silver candle holders and candelabras. This also linked in with the pearl white menus, place cards etc. Victoria Whitelaw did our flowers and reception styling – she is absolutely amazing and that was our big splurge. All the flowers were white and included freesias to give the reception a gorgeous spring feel. The flowers, combined with the candles, made the room sparkle.

Wedding cake & Favours: Our wedding cake was a chocolate mud cake with handmade flowers. Damien’s Uncle did a fabulous job of it. We still have the top layer in the freezer for our first year anniversary, but I don’t think I can wait that long to eat it!

The wedding favours came from an idea I found on Martha Stewarts wedding website – marshmallows tied in a love knot. Sweetness in NSW who are specialists in marshmallow making, worked with us to develop them in a variety of flavours including passionfruit, raspberry, lime & lemon. They were a huge hit and definitely something different.

Bridesmaid Dresses: As I was budget conscious I purchased the bridesmaid dresses in America – they were simple strapless dresses. I needed to keep the bridesmaid dresses simple as my dress had quite a lot of detail and I didn’t want too much going on with the bridesmaid dresses as well.

Wedding Gown: The colour of my wedding dress was quite unique – it was a deep oyster colour which I loved. White is not very forgiving and definitely isn’t me.

DIY Details: I created all the invitations, ceremony fans, boutonnieres tags, place cards, and menus etc. I’m a crafty person so it was such a fun project to do and it was a way for Damien to get involved as well. I’m so glad we did them ourselves (and they looked fantastic).

Biggest Challenge: We didn’t have any challenges. We’re an organised (that’s me) and relaxed (that’s Damien!) couple, so we wanted that to be reflected in the organising and execution of the wedding.

Favourite Moments: The best part of the day was standing beside Damien at the end of the night watching everyone having such an amazing time on the dancefloor! We have a photo of that moment as well which is brilliant.

Your Wedding Day: Our wedding was the best day as I got to marry my best friend who makes me laugh every day.
