Outdoor Forest Wedding on the Connecticut River

It’s environmentally friendly, organically beautiful and naturally lovely from start to finish. Set against the serene Connecticut River this fabulous outdoor forest wedding is one that will make you ‘green’ with envy. With mismatched green bridesmaids, lavender escort cards and the cutest vintage green typewriter as the guest book, this organic soiree from Ampersand Wedding Photography is as inspiring as the come. .  .

From the bride:

My only direction was that it had to be a green found in nature. I had my bridesmaids choose any green dress. Our ceremony was held in an opening among the tall pines overlooking the Connecticut River. It was the kind of overcast day where the sky radiates light evenly, the sun infusing the clouds rather then being shrouded by them. Our dear friend Johanna officiated the ceremony with ease and composure, it was as if the love and support of each person was discernible in the air. We had a old typewriter out that we had used to make our invitations where people could write us words of advice and cheers.

My advice to other brides:  If you feel comfortable in your skin while standing in the woods and mountains, then it will bring something powerful and incredibly focused to your ceremony and reception. Your wedding is an event that celebrates and punctuates the love and friendship that a relationship is born in and thrives from. Relax, breath, and take part in the joy!

Tuscan Themed Winery Wedding by Natalie Hilliard Photography

It’s not often you get to escape to Tuscany on a Tuesday, but these lovely winery nuptials from Natalie Hilliard Photography is allowing us to do just that. Filled with beautiful rich tones, stunning florals and rustic Italian details, this tuscan themed wedding, held in an elegant tent, has us beaming from ear to ear and humming Ti Amo over and over to ourselves!

Lovely bride Natalie shares with us the details:

1. What was the vision for your Tuscan themed wedding?

I envisioned a Tuscan villa with many simple, natural elements. And eggplant purple, celadon green, wood & iron for our color palette.

2. What was the size & budget of your wedding?

We ended up spending approximately $14,000.00.

3. Your florals were stunning! What flowers and decorations did you choose for your theme?

  • Ceremony Island Arrangements ~ Salmon Gladiolas, Purple Stock, Green Hypericum, Yellow, Solidago, Green Bells of Ireland, Terra Cotta Rose, Hanging Eucalyptus, Italian Ruscus, Sword Fern.
  • Rusty Iron Spheres ceremony aisle arrangements ~ Mini sunflowers, Purple Stock, Purple Sage, Rosemary, Green Hypericum, Terra Cotta Roses.
  •  Wooden Bowl Reception Centerpieces: Herb Foliage, Purple Lisianthus, Mini Sunflowers, Terra Cotta Roses, Green Hypericum, Physicocarpus.
  • We used antique wooden wine crates from Vintage Ambiance  to use for the dessert buffet tiering. Rustic farm tables (from seattle Farm Tables) were used for the head table, and dinner buffet tables (from Vintage Ambiance) for the guest tables. We also had wine barrels with glass tops for occasional cocktail tables.

4. What do you think made your wedding unique?

The venue itself is very unique! The ceremony site is situated around a pond with an island in the middle of it. The guest sits on one side of the pond and the wedding party stands on the island. Its absolutely beautiful and unlikely anything I have seen before! We did multiple different mini desserts rather than having a wedding cake and we also made all of the beer. We loved it and so did everyone else! Also we decided to hire Chopstix Roadshow for our reception entertainment which is a dueling piano show. The entire show is a live request show so the guests are able to choose what they want to hear. The most fun thing of the night was the photo booth with props that our photographer integrated into our reception. We got some absolutely hilarious and memorable pictures!!

5. Rather than a traditional wedding cake you chose mini desserts. Tell us about those?

We chose a 4 inch mini White-Chocolate raspberry cheesecake as the cutting cake. For guests we had a selection of desserts including mini Quadruple Chocolate and mini Lemon White Chocolate cheesecakes, mini Key Lime blackberry pies and mini classic Apple Pies, mini classic Vanilla and mini Spumoni cupcakes, Hazelnut gelato or Rice gelato.

5. Tell us about your Tuscan themed wedding favors?

We used mini terracotta pots filled with herb starts (ie; basil, tarragon, parsley).

6. Describe your Bridal style?

My dress was from Laineemeg Bridal (formerly From the Gown Up) – an off-white Satin fit and flair, with some lace and rhinestone detailing. My shoes were M by Marinelli with Sparkle silver with rhinestone detailing. I wore a birdcage veil with floral and rhinestone embellishments and carried a bridal bouquet filled with Cream Roses, Orange Dahlias, Cream Hypericum, Orange Calla Lily and Green Hanging Amaranthus.

7. The bridal party look very smart. Tell us about their style.

The bridesmaid dresses were from David’s Bridal Satin Dresses in Lapis. The wore Jessica Simpson Black Patent Pumps and their bouquets were filled with Purple callas, Orange Callas, and ornamental grasses. Tyler’s (groom) boutonniere featured a Sword Fern & Mini Purple Calla Lily and his groomsmen wore herb foliage. They wore Banks Charcoal Grey striped suits with white dress shirts from Jos. Tyler wore a white tie, whilst his groomsmen had patterned Lapis ties to match the bridesmaids.

8. Did you include any DIY or personalized details?

I created the monogrammed stickers we used on the candy bags used for our candy buffet. The wooden bowls used for the reception centerpiece were bought from a thrift store, sanded down, and re-stained. I created all of the table name cards (different grape varietal names) and escort cards display. I also designed the save the dates which were laser cut into cork, as well as all of our boxed invitations.

9. What did you find most challenging?

The most challenging part of our wedding planning was working with a caterer who was too busy to deal with me or my questions in a timely manner. I struggled through it and was able to get everything wrapped up, but it was by far my biggest cause of stress. I’m very detailed oriented so I completely enjoyed the planning of everything else right down to picking the different Italian flavor themed cupcakes and other desserts.

10. What were your favourite moments?

Getting ready was very fun… it’s not every day you get to be so pampered! Also, walking down the aisle and looking into the face of my soon-to-be husband is an unforgettable moment. The fact that we were able to share it with so many of our close friends and family made it that much more special!

11. Your advice to Bride’s & Groom’s planning now?

Seek out multiple reviews on your vendors (particularly from outside their website or their given references). Also, I went into planning with the idea that if I hadn’t received some sort of response after a week of contacting a vendor for the first time, I would cross them off my potential list because communication obviously is not very important to them. I broke this rule with my caterer and ended up seriously regretting it!

From the photographer: Heather & Jose are friends of mine, and I was absolutely delighted when they asked me to be their photographer. I knew their wedding would be super cool, DIY and earthy-themed, with Heather’s fabulous flair added to it. Their wedding took place on a beautiful Spring day at the Springs Preserve in Las Vegas, Nevada – the premiere LEED-certified location for ‘green’ brides and grooms.

Some of their green details included: Invitations made from plantable seed paper, sustainable paper made from the Lotka bush and eco-paper ribbon from Earth Invitations. Ceremony programs and reception menus printed on Elephant PooPoo Paper. Bridal jewelry from Green Diva Jewelry. Centerpieces and bouquets made from succulents and tillandsia, using no cut flowers at all, which the guests took home at the end of the day. Little planted succulents as escort cards. Homemade pistachio lime wedding cookies for favors, packaged in compostable cellophane. Reclaimed wood for the guest book, cake stand and ring pillow. When the bridesmaids’ wanted a break from their heels they wore foldable flip-flops made from recycled tires. Save-the-dates that Heather painted herself to look like vintage national park postcards.

They also had their first dance choreographed by A Perfect Wedding Dance, and it was seriously one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Heather & Jose are a beautiful couple and planning their day with these special details really added their personal touch to the wedding, creating memories that will never be forgotten. I’m so thankful they chose me to photograph their wedding.

Sweet Rustic Wedding on a Budget

This is not just a beautiful celebration of two people in love, but also a lovely celebration of their Dutch heritage! Janessa and Eric combined sweet rustic style, homemade DIY details and a pretty array of delft blue and white Dutch decor to create their perfect and personalized wedding day. What’s more, all this beauty and charm was budget-friendly with plenty of help from friends and family! Thanks to Lyn Ismael for perfectly capturing all the adorable details.

Beautiful bride Jenessa shares the details:

Wedding Theme

My vision was a wedding that was very personal to myself and my husband. We wanted every detail to reflect us and allow every guest to see our love for each other and our excitement for our special day. We went with a mix of themes to allow this to happen. When I looked through wedding pictures, I loved the rustic theme, and had decided to theme my wedding with rustic decorations. I also loved the DIY weddings, and wanted to have part in decorating my wedding. Finally, my husband and I both have backgrounds from the dutch culture. We chose a few dutch patterns (delft blue) and traditions to incorporate in our wedding.

Wedding Budget

We had a low budget wedding! I am proud to say our total wedding cost was just under $10,000!

Ceremony & Reception

We chose to get married in my church where I grew up. It was a beautiful space, very personal to me, and also traditional. We had decided to have our reception in a beautiful golf club with lots of wonderful details!

Colour Palette

We chose a dark navy blue colour mixed with a fresh green. We used lots of burlap and, of course, white!

Bride’s Wedding Style

My wedding gown was purchased at David’s Bridal. It had a sweetheart neckline and was a fit to flare style. The wedding party all wore TOMS shoes to the wedding! ( My accessories were all made by my good friends! I had a beautifully simple earring set and necklace with some pearls!

The bouquets were a mixture of fresh green and white flowers. They were wrapped with burlap and I carried two pins from my late Oma’s (great-grandmothers).

The bridemaid’s wore beautiful dresses from Macy’s. They were only $15! They were halter top style in a dark blue colour. They also wore handmade jewelry made by the same good friends that made mine. They used a delft blue bead for the earrings! Our flower girl wore a traditional white dress and carried a basket with burlap flowers, throwing white petals on the aisle.

Decorations & Flowers

We decorated with lots of fresh flowers (including baby’s breath). The reception tables had a white table cloth with a burlap square in the middle. Each table’s centerpiece was unique. We had a tree stump in the middle, a homemade table number (including pictures), and a variety of delft blue decorations and candles.

Wedding Cake

The wedding cake was made by my fabulous sister! It was white with little birds on top which were hand painted by my amazing mother to represent the bride and groom! We had sheet cakes made by my Aunt for a late night snack (decorated in a delft blue pattern!)

We chose chocolate letters as our favours. This is a dutch tradition! The letters we gave our were “J”‘s, “E”‘s, and “V”‘s! My mother sewed little burlap bags for each box and I attached a wooden heart burned with a message on each.

Congratulations Jenessa and Eric on your beautiful wedding day. You prove how it is possible to achieve a gorgeous look on a low budget!

Steampunk Wedding Theme

Let’s just start by saying this steampunk wedding theme is awesome.  With it’s amazing images by AK Photography and edgy punk style, I’m seriously taken back. Then there’s the oh-so-cool zepplin stationery by DesignMissoula, the eye-catching copper elements and the quirky mismatched decor. Really, there isn’t a detail in this crazy cool inspiration shoot that isn’t totally brilliant.

From the photographer: This styled wedding shoot marries the classic elements of Steampunk and Montana (the last best place). Montana was the greatest copper producer in the world during the 1880s. The mining of this metal left it’s mark on Montana’s history. Today you can find copper relics in any second-hand store across the state. Montana is also rich with sage grasses and lavender. Along with the natural elements of Montana, the theme of Steampunk was supported by the rock and roll styling of the models, the zepplin based invitations and the copper table runner and western/punk decor. And of course, we had to include a get away car tied off with Pabst Blue Ribbon tall boys (a Montana favorite).

Mount Osmond Golf Club Wedding by Truly Madly Photographers

The first thing that struck me about this Adelaide wedding was the bride’s natural elegance – a timeless Grace Kelly kind-of-elegance which perfectly complemented her drop-dead-gorgeous couture gown . The second thing? The fact this couple chose to break tradition and incorporate Australian native flowers throughout the decor, creating a classically gorgeous theme which tied in perfectly with their venue. Yes, this lovely Southern Australian soiree, held at the Mount Osmond Golf Club (so pretty!), is not only relaxed and sophisticated, but also a beautiful collection of picturesque images captured perfectly by Truly Madly Photographers. Take a moment to enjoy…

Bride Lexi shares the details:

Wedding Theme & Decor

Sebastian’s grandparents were instrumental in setting up Mt Osmond Golf Club in Adelaide, and there’s a gum tree planted on the course in honour of his late grandfather, Mr Bruce Lawrence. The tree is famously named ‘Lawrence’s Folly’. In keeping with this, all our stationery had a gum tree theme. Also, all flowers were Australian natives including the centrepieces which resembled gum trees, and the bouquets which consisted of native berries, gumnuts and foliage. For place cards we used gum leaves with each guest’s name calligraphied in silver.

Wedding Style

My bridal gown was couture and made in Istanbul. The bridesmaids wore dark green. This was in keeping with the dark wood and old worlde feel of the venue, and the beautiful surrounds (green and wood). Bridesmaids dresses were made by DragonOrient (website) and altered in Australia because both bridesmaids were pregnant in the lead-up to the wedding (Laura had her baby Ayda just 2 weeks before the wedding). Both the bride and bridesmaids wore marcasite style bracelets which were acquired in the Silver Markets in Istanbul. These matched the broach worn in the bride’s hair which belonged to my grandmother.

Wedding Cake

Our wedding cake had three-tiers. The favours were lemon cream, Baileys and fruit cake. Made by Hilda from The Delicious Biscuit, Adelaide

The guest favours were bottles of South Australian red wine with personalised labels.

Unique Elements

Sidonie Henbest (Sebastian’s sister and artistic director of the Adelaide Cabaret Fringe Festival), organised the music at the reception. The band for the night was the Capitol Group – a 6 man big band led by Mr Luke Thompson.

Favourite Moment

The second dance – when everyone joined us on the dance floor and the band played my favourite song. That moment was magical.

The Honeymoon

Our honeymoon was a two week Safari in Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve near Kruger National Park, South Africa.

Gerbera Daisy Themed Wedding in Naples Florida

When this bride submitted the details of her wedding, I could almost feel her enthusiasm bounce straight off my laptop. Ashley-Lyn and Adam celebrated a beautiful beach wedding in Naples Florida. But it certainly wasn’t your typical beach wedding with a palette of soft blues, neutrals or whites. In contrast, this fun couple with their passion for gerbera flowers and a love of bright green and black, decided to have a gerbera daisy themed wedding. As you’ll see, not only was this exuberant affair bursting with bright pinks, greens and vibrant oranges, but also overflowing with plenty of fun, laughter and gorgeous heartfelt details.

Bride Ashley-Lyn shares:

Wedding Theme

We wanted to make sure there were personal touches at all points throughout our wedding. I am from Florida and wanted a beach ceremony, with an indoor reception (Florida gets hot!). Our colors were Kelly green and black. My favorite flowers are Gerber daisies so I wanted an abundance of them, and figured with the Kelly green color, we could have every color daisy and it would be perfect for a bright spring wedding (we had 900 daisies to be exact!) I have a very creative family so they helped make everything! My aunt owns a local florist so she helped make my love for Gerber daisies come to life! From the bouquets, to the arch, lining the chairs on the aisle, the cake, head table, and all the centerpieces at the reception!

Wedding Style

One of my bridesmaids designed my wedding gown, which I could not have imagined to be more perfect!!

Ceremony Details:

My mom made the programs to resemble a fan to help cool you off if it got too hot on the beach. Each chair was draped with a cone filled with petals reading “When the newlyweds walk your way, toss the petals and shout hurray!” Also, made by my mom. Our ring bearer played the part of “ring security” perfectly with his safe box and glasses. Our flower girl walked down with a “here comes the bride” sign which got everyone amped for the grand entrance of me, the bride!! My dad is actually a pastor so he walked me down the aisle and then turned around and performed our ceremony!

Reception Details:

All of the place cards were made by my Mom, each with a paper daisy, and individual names. Our wedding favors were individual bottles of wine made specially by my in-laws for each guest! On each table we had 3 tears of flowers with high, medium, and low arrangements. Our table numbers were frames with 2 at each table holding pictures of the bride and groom at that age (ex. Table number 1 had a picture of each of us at 1 year old). My aunt made our beautiful cake and my aunt that did the flowers dressed it up with more Gerber daisies! My mom also made the cake runner displaying our monogram with wedding date.

Unique & Personalized Details

We wanted our reception to be fun for all so we planned many different surprises to keep the guests going! We even set the mood with bright green up lighting! The reception started off with a grand entrance from the bridal party, each being announced with 1 liners (ex. He still lives at home with his parents…the best man.. MATT KING!). We did the newlywed game, each having a bride and groom flip flop which was raised to answer the questions, which all of the guests thought were hilarious because we didn’t seem to get any question the same (ex. Who is the better driver) ! For our cake cutting we planned a “sneak attack” where we actually turned and smashed the cake in our best man and made of honors face! We had a slide show with pictures of us at all ages…and we even did voice overs leaving a special message for my dad and his mom before each of our dances with them.

We loved adding all of the personal touches and feel it made our wedding day. I wouldn’t have changed a thing!!!

Thank you Ashley-Lyn for sharing your magical day. We loved all the pops of colour and the ways you injected so much fun and personality into your wedding!

Bride Kara shares the details:

Wedding Theme & Colours

Our wedding theme was classic and romantic with a few unique touches. The color palette was spring blues and greens with classic gold and creme.

Wedding Fashion

My wedding dress was a fit and flare style with a simple bodice, underlay and train. It featured origami like rosettes attached to the flared skirt. My bridesmaid dresses woree knee length taffeta dresses in a soft shade of spring blue/green.

Wedding Reception

The most important aspect of our wedding was to create a classic and romantic feel with a fun atmosphere for our family and friends! I envisioned an outside location, but because our wedding was held right in the middle of Spring, I was nervous about the weather. My mother and I visited at least 10 places around Austin before choosing Austin Country Club. The country club is beautiful both inside and out with the golf course overlooking Lake Austin and the lush grounds of the country club. It was the ideal venue to achieve my desire of the perfect mix of outdoors and in.

Decorations & Flowers

The wedding decor was carefully placed but not over the top. We splashed the entire room from tables to window sills with candles. We also had up lighting around the walls and the band brought a great light setup for the stage. We also chose several combinations of flower arrangements to add some height and variety on each table. We incorporated silver/gold mercury glass cups filled with flowers to go along with tall glass arrangements. We chose flowers like white and green hydrangeas, white frizzled tulips, white cala lillies, and green bells of Ireland which spoke for themselves.

Wedding Cake & Favours

We decided to only give out koozies as a favor at the rehearsal dinner. For the wedding cake, I wanted something simple with a unique twist. I chose a cake with flowers cascading down the front to imulate my flowers on my wedding dress. Miranda Lambert used the same cake a few months later!!!

DIY & Personalized Details

We had a few personalized details throughout the weekend. First, my husband surprised his groomsmen with seersucker suits and they wore the jackets at the rehearsal dinner. I had Kendra Scott earrings customized and created for my Bridesmaids to wear on the wedding day. They also received a white button down with their initial monogram on the left upper chest to get ready in on the day. At the reception, we created an arrangement to look like a dogwood tree (state tree of Missouri) and displayed it in the front foyer in memory of my family. There were candles hanging from the chandelier above it.

What made your wedding unique?

THE BAND! They were an awesome band called Nash Vegas Allstars. My parents had seen them play in Branson and we had to have them. They had never even been to Austin before my wedding. They had the entire crowd on the dance floor all night!

What was your biggest challenge?

Making sure everything at the venue was arranged on schedule. I did use a wedding planner who only started a couple months before the wedding. In hindsight, I probably should have employed her from the get go!

What were your favorite moments?

At the altar, Anthony forgetting to repeat his lines after the pastor because he was just staring into my eyes. Also, dancing the night away with our friends! Our friends still to this day say how much fun they had at our lively wedding!

How would you sum up your wedding day?

It was just a relaxing, warm and celebratory day where we could really feel the love from those we love!
