 From the photographer:

I had the time of my life photographing these two. I’ve known them since college… actually I didn’t really know them individually, only as a couple. Which is why it was kind of surreal being their wedding photographer. It meant that we were all really grown ups now and at least 2 years out of college. And they chose me to be the one to capture the most special day of their life.

We weren’t in our college bubble anymore, this was real life and they were finally getting married! Their friends and family have been waiting for this for a long time. And the day finally came and it was a very big celebration!

Lots of tears, lots of smiles, and enough cake and beer to keep everyone satisfied. Even though I truly loved every moment of the day, I think I had the most fun photographing the dancing.

Mitch and Mallory were so relaxed and happy and ALL their friends really know how to do a dance party. They would have danced all night if the venue didn’t cut them off at 10. Everyone loved celebrating on this joyful day!

Sweet Rustic Wedding on a Budget

This is not just a beautiful celebration of two people in love, but also a lovely celebration of their Dutch heritage! Janessa and Eric combined sweet rustic style, homemade DIY details and a pretty array of delft blue and white Dutch decor to create their perfect and personalized wedding day. What’s more, all this beauty and charm was budget-friendly with plenty of help from friends and family! Thanks to Lyn Ismael for perfectly capturing all the adorable details.

Beautiful bride Jenessa shares the details:

Wedding Theme

My vision was a wedding that was very personal to myself and my husband. We wanted every detail to reflect us and allow every guest to see our love for each other and our excitement for our special day. We went with a mix of themes to allow this to happen. When I looked through wedding pictures, I loved the rustic theme, and had decided to theme my wedding with rustic decorations. I also loved the DIY weddings, and wanted to have part in decorating my wedding. Finally, my husband and I both have backgrounds from the dutch culture. We chose a few dutch patterns (delft blue) and traditions to incorporate in our wedding.

Wedding Budget

We had a low budget wedding! I am proud to say our total wedding cost was just under $10,000!

Ceremony & Reception

We chose to get married in my church where I grew up. It was a beautiful space, very personal to me, and also traditional. We had decided to have our reception in a beautiful golf club with lots of wonderful details!

Colour Palette

We chose a dark navy blue colour mixed with a fresh green. We used lots of burlap and, of course, white!

Bride’s Wedding Style

My wedding gown was purchased at David’s Bridal. It had a sweetheart neckline and was a fit to flare style. The wedding party all wore TOMS shoes to the wedding! (www.toms.ca) My accessories were all made by my good friends! I had a beautifully simple earring set and necklace with some pearls!

Bouquets

The bouquets were a mixture of fresh green and white flowers. They were wrapped with burlap and I carried two pins from my late Oma’s (great-grandmothers).

Bridesmaids

The bridemaid’s wore beautiful dresses from Macy’s. They were only $15! They were halter top style in a dark blue colour. They also wore handmade jewelry made by the same good friends that made mine. They used a delft blue bead for the earrings! Our flower girl wore a traditional white dress and carried a basket with burlap flowers, throwing white petals on the aisle.

Decorations & Flowers

We decorated with lots of fresh flowers (including baby’s breath). The reception tables had a white table cloth with a burlap square in the middle. Each table’s centerpiece was unique. We had a tree stump in the middle, a homemade table number (including pictures), and a variety of delft blue decorations and candles.

Wedding Cake

The wedding cake was made by my fabulous sister! It was white with little birds on top which were hand painted by my amazing mother to represent the bride and groom! We had sheet cakes made by my Aunt for a late night snack (decorated in a delft blue pattern!)

Favours

We chose chocolate letters as our favours. This is a dutch tradition! The letters we gave our were “J”‘s, “E”‘s, and “V”‘s! My mother sewed little burlap bags for each box and I attached a wooden heart burned with a message on each.

Congratulations Jenessa and Eric on your beautiful wedding day. You prove how it is possible to achieve a gorgeous look on a low budget!

A Bride on Horseback and her Rustic Ranch Wedding

There is something so natural and organic about this rustic ranch wedding sent to us by Amber Davis Photography. I’m guessing it’s got something to do with the stunning country scenery or the amazing rustic decor and pretty pastel flowers which complement the natural scenery so effortlessly. Then again, it could be the homemade honey favors made by the bride’s family farm or the awesome burlap Toms the bride chose to wear as her wedding shoes. What if it is purely the fact the beautiful bride arrived on horseback, turning this gorgeous wedding into one truly breathtaking country wedding with a romantic vibe. But who I am to decide? I’m going to leave the choice of which fabulous element makes this event totally memorable up to you all you lovely readers. But when viewed through the lens of Carrie Wildes, it takes beach beautiful to an entirely different level. Inspired by succulents and classic “Tommy Bahama” style this beautiful beach soiree is decorated with green succulents, burlap details and white orchids from the flowers to the tables, from the cake to the favors and everywhere in between. From the bride Jennifer: I didn’t grow up fantasizing and dreaming about my wedding day, so I had no idea where to start after Jason’s sunset proposal on the lake near our home in Dallas, Georgia. Having lived in Tampa for years, it was Jason, actually, who had always dreamed of getting married at the Don CeSar Beach Resort in St. Pete Beach, Florida. The first time he took me there I knew it was the perfect place.

I knew I wanted to keep the decor and other essentials somewhat muted. I wanted the decor to flow with the ambiance and beauty around us. Comfortable, casual, classy and elegant. Those were the key elements in my vision. I believe that everything came full circle when I found the bridesmaids dresses – the movement of the crinkle chiffon WToo by Watters dresses in the stunning ‘Mediterranean Blue’ hue. They were a perfect example of how our color scheme and decor could perfectly complement the natural beauty around us. As the planning continued, our various vendors starting referring to our theme as “Tommy Bahama Rustic”.

I’m not a big fan of flowers, thus planning our centerpieces and bouquets was extremely difficult for me. I searched endlessly for ideas and always came up short! I knew I wanted all green and white to keep with the natural, simple elegance theme, but beyond that I was having a tough time describing the look I was going for. Jana Stall, with Events in Bloom, was absolutely amazing at translating my scatter-brained thoughts and ideas into beautiful, cohesive reality. Her exquisite use of stock, succulents, manzanita branches, and other “non-traditional” elements in the bouquets, aisle runners, cake decor and centerpieces completely brought our natural, beach rustic theme to life.

Aside from the floral decor, I knew I wanted to do the remaining details myself. (Who doesn’t love a good DIY project?) I wrote numbers on extra large, real sand dollars for our table numbers. For our table assignments, I found a fabulous antique window at a thrift store for $3. With a little sanding, paint, and chalk pens, we brought new life and purpose to the old window. I sent burlap to our wonderful Pastry Chef, Tara Bishop, at the Don Cesar to use on the cake. For our favors, we adorned burlap sacks filled with local salt water taffy with ribbon and sand dollars.

Although the inclement weather required us to move our outdoor reception indoors, we were lucky enough to have a break in the clouds to still hold our ceremony outside, facing the beach, at sunset, under a covered pavilion. The weather even allowed the sun to appear just in time to snap some amazing photos on the beach. I remember Sylense, our lead photographer, telling us we had maybe 5 minutes before the rain would start up again. We finished up just as it began to spring, and moved inside to eat, drink, and dance the night away among our closest friends and family. It was truly everything we could have ever dreamed of!

Thank you Jennifer and congratulations on a truly stunning beach wedding!

When you include burlap details on your wedding table it makes for a great effect, but in order to keep the look stylish you don’t want to overdo the amount you use. There are so many ways to integrate burlap into your wedding decorations. Using simple burlap tablecloths will go great with a casual or rustic wedding theme. Also, pretty burlap bows on furniture, or burlap ribbon used for detailing on centerpieces looks particularly charming. Elegant Burlap

To maintain a chic wedding style, use just touches of burlap mixed with elegant decor. As you’ll see below, the stark white of a stylish Chiavari chair is beautifully contrasted with the rustic texture of a burlap tie. Likewise, a menu framed with burlap detailing brings a touch of organic loveliness to an elegant table setting. Another new wedding trend is to incorporate burlap accents into a glamorous style wedding theme. Mix it with sparkling crystals, chic candelabra and glimmering jewels, and the overall effect is elegant, warm and gloriously pretty!

Another way to elegantly incorporate burlap into your decor is to combine it with bright pops of colour. The natural coarse look of burlap against the canary yellow on this ring bearers pillow is a great combination. Similarly, the wonderful pop of yellow from the billy button and the teal twine on the napkin holders, add a modern and stylish accent against the earthy material.
