From the bride:

Our wedding was a dream that came true. In some magical way, every piece came together to look and feel stunning, as I think happens when you have amazing vendors, loving family and dedicated friends surrounding your day.

Our vision for our wedding was an eclectic mix of all the captivating wedding themes popular right now with an over-arching theme of mid-summer’s night dream. We had some vintage, some rustic and some bohemian vibes. It was impossible for me to stick with just one theme, as I kept seeing things I loved all over the place.

A lot of my inspiration came from other weddings I saw online but also from every day life. In our home, we have mismatched plates, so I knew right away that I wanted to do that for the wedding to give it that homey feel.

The venue was this incredible bed and breakfast that had an alluring, natural space in their back yard that lent itself to feeling like you belonged there, contributing to the ‘at home’ feel. Our table numbers came from important dates in our lives and our tables were filled with the most stunning flowers I’ve ever seen that we had grown at a local farm. We had a ton of vintage vases combined with tree stumps, moss and a variety of candles to give the space that soft, romantic feel. It was awesome. Everyone got to take home a vase as their favor…something that we hope everyone will enjoy and use!

My dress was originally made in the 60’s and had this intricate and delicate lace that had faded to this breathtaking shade of antique cream. I had some alterations done to give it the flutter sleeves and the deep-V back and make it fit my perfect wedding dress vision. My sister-in-law has the prettiest handwriting and wrote out everyone’s name and table number on river rocks while my best friend made us our wood-burned advice box. We were very fortunate to have an entire bridal party of gifted and loving friends and family that made our wedding incredibly special.

The most important part of our wedding was also the most unique. Our ceremony started off with one our very talented friends and groomsmen playing the guitar while the bridal party and bride walked down the aisle. The bride’s best friend wrote and performed the most beautiful and meaningful ceremony while the groom’s aunt (a JOP) was able to step in at the end and marry us while we stood surrounded by all of our loved ones holding hands. We wrote our own personalized vows for one another that are words we now treasure and use against one another (sarcastically!) in every day life. The ceremony was full of depth, passion, love and joy and if I had the option to go back and change anything, I would leave it exactly the same.

My advice to any bride and/or groom reading this would be to make your wedding day meaningful, whatever that means to you and remember to be in the moment…the day goes quick and it’s back to being a dream.

Gypsy Boho Wedding Inspiration

As the days get warmer and the nights longer, I thought I’d keep it cool and relaxed, with this modern and pretty take on a bohemian wedding theme. This gypsy boho wedding inspiration board features chic and stylish details, vintage decor and, plenty of white gorgeous blooms. A diamente headpiece and a flowing gown ramp up the romance, whilst simple elements such as milk bottle vases, timber crates and hanging flowers keep the whole atmosphere organic and homemade. I think this beautiful outdoor setting would be oh-so pretty to recreate for a real wedding. What about you?

Boho Chic Wedding Ideas

We fell in love with every bit of this boho chic inspiration shoot by Petula Pea Photography the instant we saw it.  The subtle and soft pretty pastel palette, the breezy outdoor setting and the eclectic mix of vintage mismatched decor are absolutely dreamy. The decadent petal style wedding cake, the country rustic touches and the beautiful boho headpieces really make a boho chic theme simply irresistible. But the stand-out detail for me, is the gorgeous bohemian style gown by D’Marie Couture – simply stunning! There are so many fab ideas in this shoot to take in, your wedding inspiration meter will be in hippie-pretty overdrive once you reach the end!

From the Event Co-ordinator: A boho chic bride is inspired by nature, loves spending time outdoors, enjoys the simple things in life, and has a free spirit admired by others. The boho chic bride steers away from the traditional style of wedding dress. Instead, she opts for a flowing, lightweight gown with a great neckline (like the halter style featured with a single fabric rose replacing flashy embellishments).

A beautiful headpiece is a must for the bohemian bride. You can add touch of sparkle to a floral headband for a modern twist; or for a more classic boho look, wearing a long flowery headpiece is perfect. {Just like the floral headpiece featured in this shoot. An original by Whichgoose, worn by photographer Patty, on her own wedding day in 2009}.

Rustic, vintage furniture pairs beautifully with boho chic style. The hand-built doorway is an original ceremony backdrop and signifies an opening to a new adventure. The weathered nightstand is a great contrast against the delicate rose petal cake, and the drawers and shelves filled with trinkets represent family heirlooms.

Mismatched chairs are a fun way to mix-up the guest tables and using vintage picture frames to display table numbers gives the tables a creative touch. We added layers of textures and colors to the table for dimension, along with patterned plates and mismatched glasses to compliment the outdoor canvas. Lastly, low floral arrangements of various heights were added to create a soft, romantic look without overdoing it.

Dreamy Bohemian Beach Wedding by NGG Studios

I just love when a romantic wedding is so dreamy and breathtaking, it makes you want to step into the photos and become part of the gorgeous love-filled atmosphere. So when Brett and Kristie from NGG Studios shared this amazing 70’s inspired beach wedding, complete with a stunning bohemian bride, breathtaking native bouquets, flowing neutral-toned dresses and cute Combi vans, I was over the moon. I totally adore the couple, I totally adore the Broadbeach location, and I have to confess, I’m absolutely besotted with NGG Studios photography – incredible! It’s relaxed boho chic at it’s best people….and on the beach no less!

Gorgeous bride Brodie shares the details:

Wedding Theme

Natural with a sort of a 70’s bohemian style. We aren’t traditional and wanted the feel of the wedding to reflect us.

Wedding Budget

I wanted a budget of $10,000 (we don’t have a lot of  money and were going on a honeymoon to Europe); however, Trent didn’t like the idea of a budget as he figured it was hard to put a limit on something. I think we totalled close to $15,000. So I was happy with that.

Colour Palette

I like everything natural and in neutral colours.  The only colours we used were in the flowers. We did however choose a sandy yellow coloured table runner.

Ceremony &  Reception

Trent and I both love the beach, plus Trent surfs, so it was a definite to be on the beach. We also wanted the location close to home and the ceremony within easy walking distance to the reception for our older family guests. Our ceremony was on the beach in front of the Broadbeach Surf Club and the reception in the Broadbeach Surf Club.

Wedding Dress

A Lisa Brown in champagne coloured silk – very plain and elegant. I work as a flight attendant – and when overnight in Sydney – stumbled upon the dress in a little shop on Oxford St, Paddington. After many phone calls I decided to get it. It was only $595 and I took it home in a small brown paper bag (my flight crew couldn’t believe it!).

To make the dress more special, Trent’s mum (Dorothy) added pearls and lace from my Great Aunt’s wedding dress. My grandparents are dead, so I really wanted to wear something from them that was special to me. Dorothy also made my veil from my great Aunt’s lace and my Grandma’s pearls. I also wore my other Grandma’s ring. I borrowed Trent’s Nan’s cameo for my dress and wore her cameo bracelet to match. I also turned her pearl necklace into a headband (this also matched my pearl engagement ring). We wore beaded foot jewellery on the beach for the ceremony, then put on heels for the reception.

Bouquets

The bridesmaids had native bouquets and my bouquet was a King Protea.

Bridesmaids

I had so much trouble finding bridesmaids dresses due to the fact that I was wearing a standard dress, I wanted neutral colours, and my Maid of Honour was 8 months pregnant! So it was difficult to get them to match. Finally, I found one I liked in a shop, and then purchased them online for half price.

Groomsmen Attire

Trent bought his and the groomsmen outfits from Country Road before I purchased my dress. This was good but then I had to make sure we all matched.

Decorations & Flowers

We decorated the venue ourselves. The venue supplied the tables, chairs, tablecloths, candles, a fairy light backdrop and the table runners. We loved the idea of bottles filled with flowers, and I also love doilies, so these were used for the table decorations. Trent collected bottles from his work leading up to the wedding.

Wedding Cake

Trent’s mum (who is this amazingly creative) along with a little help from Trent made our wedding cake! It had a dark chocolate bottom layer, caramel chocolate centre and a white chocolate on top layer. It looked incredible and handmade flowers to match those used in the bridal party.

DIY & Personalized Details

Most of our wedding was DIY. Trent is a chef at a Spanish tapas bar so he really wanted to do the food. This meant a very busy 3 days before the wedding, but it turned out amazing! Everything was delicious! We had a cocktail style reception with beautiful spanish tapas and a wooded board full of jamon (spanish ham), cheeses, breads and pate’. For dessert, we had churros and a chocolate fountain, as well as the wedding cake. My friends from college work in catering, so they worked as our waitresses and chef on the night – which was perfect!

Also, Trent’s mum also made the flowergirl dresses, helped me make the brooches for the bridesmaids dresses, and even made our foot jewellery!  The combie vans we arrived in, were a wedding gift from my brother and his wife.

Biggest Challenges

Finding time. I work full time and study part time, Trent also works full time, so we are both so busy. There just wasn’t enough hours in the day to plan a wedding!

Favourite Moments

I couldn’t say anything particular the whole day was like a dream come true, so many fun things and the excitement of the ceremony and arriving, I was just so excited and happy the whole day. We both were.

Any Advice To Other Couples

Hmmm….. Just enjoy it and do what you want. Keep to your own style and don’t listen to everyone else. Take what others say on board (you can get good tips and advice), but it’s your day in the end. Plus don’t let little things bother you or stress you out. You won’t care when the day comes and no-one else will notice little things..

Thank you Brodie and Trent for sharing with us your dreamy beach wedding

An Artist’s Wedding in Oland Sweden

From the photographer: This was a very special wedding in Öland, an island in south east of Sweden. I wanted to capture the special landscape here. The couple was married in the groom’s and his father’ gallery – barefoot with sand on the floor, close, intimately. The lovely opera singer Thomas Pichler performed an Italian aria and music by Cat Stevens and I believe all of the guest wiped their eyes. The reception took place in the art studio, amongst brushes, paintings and stuffed birds. The groom’s father served an eight (!) course meal, cooked on the stove supervised by a dear! As the sun went down we went out to the Öland limestone in the magical light whilst the fog gathered around their naked feet.

Bohemian Bride in New York City

We have a wonderfully unique wedding story to tell you today, which begins with a beautiful bohemian bride walking to her wedding through the streets of New York City. This eclectic event captured creatively by Samantha Gore is as original as it is beautiful. It’s a unique blend of  boho glam meets traditional multi-cultural wedding with a dash of  city chic . . . and we’re loving every aspect of it’s relaxed hypnotic charm.

Bohemian BrideBohemian Wedding IdeasPhotographer Samantha shares: This wedding was elegant and unique in its simplicity and modern feel mixed with timeless tradition. Kelley got ready at home with her parents and walked alone from her Manhattan loft (except for the photographer), to pick up flowers from the local bodega and then hailed a cab to the beautiful St. Vartan Armenian Cathedral at 2nd avenue and East 34th street.

Bohemian Wedding New York CityBohemian Bride New York CityHippie BrideBoho Bride New York CityThe St. Vartan Cathedral is the first cathedral of the Armenian Apostolic Church to be built in North America. It is a beautiful construction with unique features distinct to Armenian Architecture. The ceremony was the same one that the Armenian church has performed for over 1000 years – where the donning of capes and crowns, the burning of sage, and traditional songs sung by a small choir set it apart from most modern Christian ceremonies. It was attended by a select group of friends and family who celebrated after in the wine cellar of the 21 club, a famous New York establishment and former prohibition-era speakeasy that has been around since 1922.
