Our Dating Story (Her version)

It all began on a snowy evening back in January of 2010. We met through mutual friends at a local ski resort while enjoying a country music band and a few cocktails. What started off as a harmless conversation, talking about “business,” led to 10 months filled with thousands of text messages (technology has really put a damper on the romance of pursuing a significant other), a few late night phone conversations, the occasional happy hour BUT never an actual date. That all changed on Christmas of 2010. We spent the evening together playing cards, exchanging gifts, drinking wine, sharing stories and having what would be one of the best nights of both of our lives and the start of the next chapter in our love story. That “official” first date came three days later.

Long distance was a word that we knew all too well. From the time we met until the time we were engaged, we never lived within 2 hours of one another. Distance never seemed to keep us apart though. Our evenings were filled with Skype sessions and our weekends with trips to Philadelphia and State College…there was also the occasional weekday trip as well. Crazy kids, you just couldn’t keep us apart! That distance that we always seemed to complain of proved to make our relationship even stronger. Fast forward a year and a half later. Ashley had won a trip though work to Las Vegas.

The Proposal (His Version)

Getting ready for dinner that evening, I had the entire proposal planned out. After a great sushi dinner, we were going to walk down the strip to the Bellagio to watch the fountain show. I had the exact time of our show, 7:20 PM. All of the day’s commotion to this point had me worked up: getting a ring from Pennsylvania to Las Vegas through airport security without Ashley knowing was quite the task. Every ten minutes I checked my wallet to make sure the ring was still in place. I was a nervous wreck and Ashley kept asking, “Honey, is something wrong? Are you not having fun?”

We arrived at dinner around 5:30 at Sushi Roku, and I was constantly checking my watch; we couldn’t be late for the 7:20 show. Anyone who has the slightest clue about me knows that I absolutely love to eat. I picked at our meal and barely finished my drink. Ashley asked, “Honey, don’t you feel well? Is your dinner not good?” Again, I told her I was tired from the long day. We paid our bill and started our venture down the strip towards the Bellagio. The timing appeared to be just right; we would arrive a few minutes before the show to get the perfect spot.

As we arrived at the fountains, I looked for the perfect background to have our picture taken as I proposed. We were in place, and I spotted what appeared to be a tech savvy couple I would ask to take our picture. By this time I had the ring in my front pocket, checking every ten seconds to make sure it was in place. The show was set to begin, and I asked the couple to take our picture as the fountains started. After handing them the camera, I removed the ring from my pocket and walked over to Ashley. I went down on one knee and popped the question. Immediately Ashley placed her hands on her face and repeatedly asked, “Are you serious!? You’re kidding me! This can’t be real.” After asking her a second time I said, “Ashley, please don’t make me ask you again!” She finally said YES and I placed the ring on her finger. I came to my feet and we kissed, taking in the moment as the camera snapped away. This was the start to the best vacation and the rest of our lives together!

Glam Black and Gold Wedding in Monterey California

When I announce a wedding to be up there with my favourites, it’s a pretty big deal, considering I fall head-over-heels for at least 10 weddings a week. But I’m going to be up straight. This glam wedding by Studio 13 Designs is a bona fide favorite. No surprises there, when you have Italian glamour, black and gold details and a location that is one of my favourite places in the US of A… the picturesque seaside locale of Carmel, Monterey. Sigh. Sigh. Double sigh.

Wedding Highlights:

Brittany and Antonio were married on a stunning day in Carmel and their day was a beautiful, family filled celebration with gorgeous handmade details all around. Their wedding was filled with Italian glam–with a gold and black theme and glittery details everywhere! There were so many special and personal touches—both veils were made by the bride’s aunt, and all of the flowers were designed and executed by the her mother. Authentic Italian cookies were provided by the groom’s sister (which were to die for!) and the favors and the “love” marquee were hand made by bride. I was blown away by the time and love that was poured into their wedding day as they finally joined together as husband and wife surrounded by so much support.

Modern Whimsical Wedding in Black, White, Gold & Pink

Black and white and gold all over, with a touch of pink – what’s not to love about this fun color palette beautifully curated by the talented Haydee of Sweetest Celebrations. An elegant black tie wedding is elevated to new heights with subtle accents in gold, and a flash of hot pink brings an unexpected whimsical flair to the event.

modern-whimsical-wedding-black-white-gold

The Inspiration:

The modern bride is someone who takes a classic and romantic gown with a full ruffled skirt and gives it new life with a fun organza flower. Classic stripes in black and white bring a modern feel to the event, from the drinks served under a circus like tent in stripes, to the fun boutonniere worn by the groom.

Gold flatware and plating treats guests like royalty, but the striped straws keep the event casual, while adding a touch of whimsy at the same time. Pink and gold are scattered throughout the wedding in unexpected places — the tiny flags on the straws, the monogram cake topper, and some fun balloons that can be used as photo props for the guests and bridal party.

This inspiration board is the perfect combination of the modern and whimsical. It is for the modern, hip couple that wants to have fun at their wedding, while still providing their guests with a beautifully elegant experience.

LWB Welcomes Sweetest Celebrations {& Parisian Chic Inspiration}!

Hi lovelies! It’s a wonderful Thursday morning and I’m excited to announce our brand new guest blogger to join the LWB family –  lovely Haydee from Sweetest Celebrations. You’ll be pleased to note Haydee is not only obsessed with all things weddings, but she also just happens to be a wedding co-ordinator (handy girl to have around I say!)  Just like us, there’s nothing she loves more than immersing herself in some serious pretty – and lucky for us she will be sharing plenty of pretty inspiration on LWB every month. So, give a warm welcome to Haydee,  and enjoy her first gorgeous feature, then be sure to pop over to her pretty website to see how she can make your special day come to life!

Lately, I’ve been inspired by Paris – the city of romance, soft ruffles and glamorous chandeliers. I picture a wedding adorned with sweet details in shades of ivory and pink, accented with touches of black here and there. This inspiration board features a Parisian Chic wedding theme, with traditional items such as vintage teacups and upholstered wing back chairs balanced with modern touches like black crystal accents and pink ruffles. A nice finishing touch would be to have chandeliers everywhere – to cast a soft mood for the ceremony and then to also liven up the table decor on a smaller scale. French macaroons create the perfect finale adding another element of French elegance to your wedding theme.  I think this style of inspiration would add a touch of romance and glamour to any wedding.

From the bride:

David has always wanted to get married on Halloween and I always wanted a Fall wedding, so we meshed the two together!  The inspiration for the day was for our guests to have fun, whilst still keeping it romantic. We asked our guests to dress in costume since it was a Halloween themed wedding (only a couple days before Halloween). , and it was so fun walking down the aisle seeing everyone dressed up!

Michelle, the owner of the Jones Victorian Estate, took my mom and I shopping at Shinoda where we found a lot of the vases, the picket fence for the seating chart, and some other spooky decorations. I went to the Long Beach swap meet to find most of the frames and the old timey clock. I found the old bottles on Etsy and my little sister bought the pumpkin head couple for the guest book table.  The fountain’s water in the middle of the tables was died red to resemble blood and there were fake black ravens placed everywhere.

My bridesmaids “bouquets” were my favorite feature. I was inspired by another bride who had used lanterns instead of bouquets in her wedding, so I took her idea and ran with it by adding flowers inside the lanterns. As for the DIY projects we made our Save the Dates, our invites were bought from Michaels, but we printed on them and added the fence with the crow on to the response cards. We made the tutus for my flower girls and their fairy wings are actually butterflies – we just added shoulder straps and covered the butterfly bodies with tulle. My niece {Montana} made the couple in the coffins that were displayed on the sweetheart table, the witch finger cookies were made with some help from my aunt and family friend, we made the “toe tag” escort cards, the Trick-or-Treat banner and the favor bags as well.

From the photographer: Heather & Jose are friends of mine, and I was absolutely delighted when they asked me to be their photographer. I knew their wedding would be super cool, DIY and earthy-themed, with Heather’s fabulous flair added to it. Their wedding took place on a beautiful Spring day at the Springs Preserve in Las Vegas, Nevada – the premiere LEED-certified location for ‘green’ brides and grooms.

Some of their green details included: Invitations made from plantable seed paper, sustainable paper made from the Lotka bush and eco-paper ribbon from Earth Invitations. Ceremony programs and reception menus printed on Elephant PooPoo Paper. Bridal jewelry from Green Diva Jewelry. Centerpieces and bouquets made from succulents and tillandsia, using no cut flowers at all, which the guests took home at the end of the day. Little planted succulents as escort cards. Homemade pistachio lime wedding cookies for favors, packaged in compostable cellophane. Reclaimed wood for the guest book, cake stand and ring pillow. When the bridesmaids’ wanted a break from their heels they wore foldable flip-flops made from recycled tires. Save-the-dates that Heather painted herself to look like vintage national park postcards.

They also had their first dance choreographed by A Perfect Wedding Dance, and it was seriously one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Heather & Jose are a beautiful couple and planning their day with these special details really added their personal touch to the wedding, creating memories that will never be forgotten. I’m so thankful they chose me to photograph their wedding.

Mad Men Wedding Theme

I’m a huge fan of the Mad Men series – the cool 1950s era, the stylish fashion, and the intriguing characters…absolutely every bit of it! So, if there was a theme I would be jumping over the moon to see, it would be a Mad Men wedding theme. This gorgeous 1950s inspired shoot designed by Laura Lorraine Designs and shot by Randi Marie Photography, is full of Mad Men glam with a little modern twist and is shimmering with so much elegance, I’m sure all vintage brides out there will do a major double take. With a gorgeous tea-length lace dress, seriously pretty shoes, gorgeous jewellery and a mint green vintage suitcase I just gotta have, it’s a romantic dose of inspiration this MM fan is loving to bits.

Inspiration from the Designer: We set out to produce a one of a kind styled photo shoot to mirror the 1950’s (a timeless era), along with a Mad Men-esque modern theme. We hand selected the linens from La Tavola and these were the starting point of inspiration for the entire shoot. The color palette in the linens also complimented the elegance and ambience of the NOOR’s Ella ballroom perfectly. For the ‘Mad Men meets Modern’ theme, we chose dresses, provided by Alina Pizzano Couture Bridal to reflect the era and create a modern twist. Beautiful floral arrangements by Savvy Flowers added a pop of class to our tablescape. Sandra Nicole Designs, Crush Jewelry and Disco Toes added that little bling and the “wow factor” to tie together our model’s looks for the shoot’s integrity. Randi with Randi Marie Photography worked her magic to create a subtle yet beautiful collection of photos alongside SEP Lighting & Entertainment, which added to the beauty and essence of the Ella. Melinda with Cake Goodness, topped off the design with her beautiful, sweet creations and custom backdrop. All of this allowed for and complimented the design thought up and heavily fostered by Laura with Laura Lorraine Design.

Vintage Inspired Boudoir Session at Great Northern Hotel by Wanted Imagery

Vintage inspired lacey undergarments and a heritage listed hotel (such as the Great Northern in Newcastle) make for a hauntingly beautiful Boudoir shoot. One that appears straight out of the pages of a vintage fashion mag, with a gorgeous natural beauty and inspiring images by Rebecca of Wanted Imagery. To put it simply: elegant vintage style + a red headed beauty + a talented photographer = Boudoir perfection.

Steampunk Wedding Theme

Let’s just start by saying this steampunk wedding theme is awesome.  With it’s amazing images by AK Photography and edgy punk style, I’m seriously taken back. Then there’s the oh-so-cool zepplin stationery by DesignMissoula, the eye-catching copper elements and the quirky mismatched decor. Really, there isn’t a detail in this crazy cool inspiration shoot that isn’t totally brilliant.

From the photographer: This styled wedding shoot marries the classic elements of Steampunk and Montana (the last best place). Montana was the greatest copper producer in the world during the 1880s. The mining of this metal left it’s mark on Montana’s history. Today you can find copper relics in any second-hand store across the state. Montana is also rich with sage grasses and lavender. Along with the natural elements of Montana, the theme of Steampunk was supported by the rock and roll styling of the models, the zepplin based invitations and the copper table runner and western/punk decor. And of course, we had to include a get away car tied off with Pabst Blue Ribbon tall boys (a Montana favorite).
