Hawaii Theme Wedding in Southern California

What’s the next best thing to having your wedding in Hawaii?… a Hawaii theme wedding of course. And, that’s exactly what this Southern Californian couple decided to do. With fabulous pops of pink, pretty tropical decorations and traditional Hawaiian lei’s for all the groomsmen, it literally transports you to Maui with it’s gorgeous island style. Brooktown Photography was there to snap all the loving pics and beautiful marquee reception.

From the photographer: Here in North San Diego County, late July marks the beginning of the hottest season, and when we were hired to shoot Paul and Nadine’s wedding we knew that there was a chance their mid-afternoon ceremony would be blazing hot.Enter the Grand Tradition, one of the original Southern California wedding venues.

After hosting thousands of weddings at the beautiful estate that was custom-built for weddings decades ago, the Grand Tradition expanded with a garden-themed venue called “Arbor Terrace.” One of its best features, especially in the summertime, is the abundance of shade cast by the lush landscaping; while we captured Paul and Nadine’s wedding, we stayed nice and cool despite the heat that arrived right on time.

The couple also rolled with the weather, using the heat as an occasion to set fans on every chair at the ceremony site, and perfecting a Hawaii beach theme that included generous green centerpieces and a signpost pointing guests to their tables at the reception. One of the best touches was the music: Paul and Nadine met while singing karaoke, and they hired the DJ who was running the mic that night to entertain their wedding guests. And before leaving under a blaze of sparklers, they sang their first duet as husband and wife.

Ideas For Real Feet-On-The-Sand Beach Weddings

After years of experience with Outer Banks weddings, we put together a 3-part series to help you overcome the most common challenges when planning your destination wedding on the beach. Today, we’ll talk about cool apparel, wind-resistant hair dos, and sand-appropriate structures.

Beach Garments

An elaborate wedding dress and tuxedo is a little too formal and too warm for the beach. Choose a dress that will stand up to the humidity in an airy cool style that won’t let your down.

Guys should take a cue from this “Barefoot Beach Wedding” and opt for crisp cargo shorts and a white button down. Or perhaps a light linen suit in white, beige or natural.

Wind-Resistant Hair

The beach is always breezy so go with a hair style that takes advantage of that, a perfect combination of romantic, yet messy and casual is oh so right for a beach wedding. A new take on the traditional is a big trend with a series of tiny individual braids that end in a side chignon or a low knotted bun at the neck.

To beat the heat and humidity “Opt for a sheer powder to even out imperfections and stick with powder shadows for your eyes,” advises Cayla Crenshaw in a recent summer makeup article. And unless your skin is very dry powder blushers and bronzers are best.

The same way the wind is a factor to consider in your wedding hairdo, it affects your decorations, which gives you the option to be playful and take advantage of it. In the pictures above you see 2 styles of colorful ribbons and an impromptu aisle decorated with paper lanterns. And speaking of aisles, note how one couple used white benches instead of chairs – chairs are not always necessary.

Stay tuned for our next articles, on chair arrangement and chuppah decorations for the beach! You wont wanna miss it.

Glamorous Beach Wedding Decor

Combining glamorous decor with a stunning beach location makes for a dream wedding in my books. As such, I couldn’t resist sharing with you this modern seaside wedding shoot designed by Alchemy Fine Events. Inspired by the opulence of the Italian Rivera, it combines rustic elements with modern glamor-filled details. Beautiful coloured blooms by Isari Flower Studio add splashes of color from russet orange to ballerina pink along with pops of indigo and green for contrast. The light-filled images by Luna Photo beautifully enhance a look which not only romantic but also clean, striking and unique. This is the perfect inspiration for relaxed luxury wedding or stylish beach theme affair. Just imagine slipping on a pretty dress, sipping cool cocktails, and wriggling your toes in the sand – heaven! Oh, and you wouldn’t want to miss out on a slice of that amazing silver adorned cake while you’re at it!
