How to Plan a Summer Wedding

A summer wedding is simply magical. There is something in the air that excites, inspires, and invigorates the body, mind, and soul. Why not tie the knot in this sizzling and sunny season? Here is how to plan a Summer wedding from the ceremony to the wedding favors.

How To Plan A Summer Wedding

Summer Wedding Ideas

One of the perks of a summer wedding is the weather. Host your ceremony or entire reception outdoors. Many couples host a destination wedding, while others utilize city landmarks or even open floor plan (indoor to outdoor) venues. A vineyard is also an ultra-romantic wedding setting for guests and their wine loving guests. Also, adding an element of water will not only have a cooling effect, it will make a splash with your guests as well. Fountains, ponds, and pools make ideal backdrops for summer ceremonies and receptions.

Summer Wedding Colors

You can’t go wrong with yellow for summer weddings. This bright and sunny shade can’t help but make others smile and is oh-so-appropriate for the sultry season of summer. Shades of coral, gold, mint, or blush also work well for summer ceremonies.

Summer Wedding Colors

Summer Wedding Cakes

Bright, light, and airy colors can also be incorproated into the design scheme of your wedding cake. Choose a cake with some whimsical flair that reflects the sights of the season. A daisy adorned design is adorable, and a strawberry shortcake creation screams summer.

Summer Wedding Dresses

Summer wedding dresses should be light weight, flowing, and comfortable. Avoid anything too clingy. Satin tends to show sweat marks and doesn’t always flatter the figure when viewed in direct light. Opt for strapless styles that boast an empire waist, have cut out designs, or have a short hemline (especially for beach weddings). A little sparkle doesn’t hurt either. Say yes to crystal adorned hemlines or sequins sewn through out the body of the gown.

Summer Wedding Flowers

It’s nice to sit back, relax, and smell the flowers during summer months. Which fragrant flowers will you include in your bouquet? Consider carrying pretty peonies, succulents, and roses. Or, opt for something more earthy, unique, but chic. A bouquet filled with artichokes, celosias, agapanthus, and scabiosa pods will wow your guests and be completely unexpected, yet seasonal. But, when in doubt, a lush and light  bundle of roses, peonies, and hydrangeas will do the trick!

Summer Wedding Decorations

Let the party begin! When it comes to summer wedding décor keep it light hearted, romantic, and fun. String white paper lanterns from the tent or tree tops, hang long strands of flower petals and crystals from tree limbs, and even position comfortable cushioned seating around your outdoor venue. Set up “beach chair” place cards and play up warm and welcoming citrus tones. For favors, opt for bright flip flops so guests can dance the night away in comfort, or fans that showcase the summery theme (and temperatures!).

Planning a summer wedding is a great idea. You have so many options when it comes to colors, décor, and flowers. Plus, sunny and bright weather can be looked upon as a symbol of a happy and healthy new life together with the one that you love!

Woodlands Bride Inspiration

This woodlands bride inspiration shoot captured our attention. Not for any luxury elements, or opulent details. Not for a jaw-dropping venue or breathtaking location. But for the sheer simplicity of it all. With a simple baby breath’s bouquet and a pretty white gown is everything a bride needs to envoke beauty and pure elegance. The perfect inspiration for a wedding in the woods wouldn’t you agree?. We were sold. Hope you are too.

From the photographer

This shoot was inspired by the natural raw feel of Swarthmore College campus. The campus is covered in tall trees and has a stone amphitheater that made a gorgeous location for bridal portraits. The trees were enchanting with an ethereal feel. We used baby’s breath for a floral crown and bouquet. Using a simple flower for a bouquet can be gorgeous for a wedding. Her makeup look was a smokey eye with a dark red lip and a loose braid in her hair.

You know it’s going to be a great day when a delightful soiree like this turquoise and white Summer wedding theme arrives on your (digital) doorstep. And when that lovely summer wedding just happens to be decked out in an elegant reception held at Crystal Point Yacht Club, plus has a whole bunch of fun stuff thrown in, like the red trolley to transport the wedding party (we love that idea), then Monday becomes the best day of our week. Idalia Photography snapped every sweet moment and it’s all just waiting for you to admire.

Wedding Highlights

From the photographer: Megan and Matt had a gorgeous wedding day with plenty of sunshine. They added sprinkles of turquoise to the day in their lovely invitation, their bridesmaids bright dresses, and their groomsmen’s awesome plaid socks. Other fun special touches included a bright red trolley to get around in and a bagpiper to greet guests and send Megan and Matt off as newlyweds after the ceremony. Our favorite detail: Megan wore a cathedral veil during the ceremony and then changed into a birdcage veil for the reception! They had a perfect wedding day and we are thrilled to share these images with you!

Styled Roulette Wedding Shoot

This dramatically alternative and uber cool shoot was the brain child of photographer Rosie of Vision of Rose Photography and her best friend Veronica from Tutus for All Boutique. The idea came from us wanting to do something completely out of the box – totally different to anything done before . We decided to make our shoot a “roulette” styled shoot which involved photographing seven models, each wearing a different look. The themes were: Burlesque Beauty, Punk Rock Glam, Paris Princess, Just Peachy, Nautical & Coral, Day of the Dead and Ice Queen  Whilst some of the looks are completely offbeat, we love how they still offer plenty of steal-worthy ideas you can easily infuse in your day.

Behind the Shoot

Luxe la Vie by LaShendra was the makeup artist for Day of the Dead and Ice Queen and I, Rosey with Vision of Rose Photography completed the rest of the looks, except for the Paris Princess who did her own. The red and peach rose pomanders were from BizouBizou. The felt flower banner, glitter votives, confetti glitter votives, and felt rose topiary were all from The Decor Room. The rose jewelry (earrings and rings) were by Sara’s Pretty Petals. Some of the other jewelry worn by our models were creations of Lydia Jade Creations. The cakes were all made by The Frosted Edge. All outfits were designed by and created by Tutus for All Boutique. All other items from the shoot were either created by or purchased by Rosey with Vision of Rose Photography.

Glam Black and Gold Wedding in Monterey California

When I announce a wedding to be up there with my favourites, it’s a pretty big deal, considering I fall head-over-heels for at least 10 weddings a week. But I’m going to be up straight. This glam wedding by Studio 13 Designs is a bona fide favorite. No surprises there, when you have Italian glamour, black and gold details and a location that is one of my favourite places in the US of A… the picturesque seaside locale of Carmel, Monterey. Sigh. Sigh. Double sigh.

Wedding Highlights:

Brittany and Antonio were married on a stunning day in Carmel and their day was a beautiful, family filled celebration with gorgeous handmade details all around. Their wedding was filled with Italian glam–with a gold and black theme and glittery details everywhere! There were so many special and personal touches—both veils were made by the bride’s aunt, and all of the flowers were designed and executed by the her mother. Authentic Italian cookies were provided by the groom’s sister (which were to die for!) and the favors and the “love” marquee were hand made by bride. I was blown away by the time and love that was poured into their wedding day as they finally joined together as husband and wife surrounded by so much support.

From the photographer

The whole morning before seeing each other at the first look, Corina was so calm! She was completely relaxed and definitely had that beautiful bride’s radiance. She got ready with her closest family and friends and that made the morning that much more special. Upon seeing each other at the first look, both Corina & Jason cried tears of joy and were eagerly ready to say “I do”. Their wedding was a culmination of Jason and Corina’s stylish elements mixed with the rustic feel that Patrick Ranch has to offer. Nearly all of the couple’s guests traveled to be with these two. Family and friends are important to them, and they spent a good portion of cocktail hour mingling and making sure everyone knew how grateful they were for their guests traveling to celebrate with them. Jason and Corina are a perfect pair and it was such a joy to photograph them on their special day!!

This cute couple went for something totally different and re-enacted a 1950s scene for their vintage style love shoot. Infusing old-fashioned values, retro country decor and total adoration for each other, they bring to life an era that once was (complete with single beds!) And we totally LOVE that! Jessie Felix snapped up all the fun and we are so thankful she did!

Sweet & Simple Autumn Wedding Inspiration Shoot

You know, as much as I am a Summer junkie, I have to admit I love the beauty of Autumn. The crisp air, the gorgeous colors and the excuse to indulge in some scrumptious apple pie. That’s why this sweet and simple autumn inspiration shoot snapped by Ashley & Luke Photography has me entranced. It is full of Fall inspired gorgeousness and ideas with details that are as sweet and simple as they are totally elegant. The perfect combination for a DIY, country or organic inspired wedding wouldn’t you agree?

From the photographer:

I myself am a DIY girl and wanted to showcase a simple yet charming set-up. With fall right around the corner I wanted to showcase the season without going overboard. We chose an apple theme with mini apple pies as well as some donuts for a nice treat. The centerpiece was a simple wooden basket filled with green and red apples. The bouquet was put together by me with dried flowers mixed in with some real coral colored roses. I absolutely loved the invitations that were designed for us. It includes a knot that comes together when it is opened up. What is unique about the whole session is that while we were shooting it was misting. A few times it came down and yet we continued on. I love how the rain added to the beauty of it all.
