From the Photographer:

Joel is my husband Luke’s oldest friend. They have been best friends since they met at the age of nine, and 90% of Luke’s childhood memories include Joel in some way (maybe more!). I got to know Joel when we spent a summer together in Maryland during college, and was unsurprised to realize that we shared many similar personality traits!

Joel moved to Los Angeles after graduating college a couple years ago and has both struggled and thrived in his new city. Kat is from Kentucky, and packed up her belongings in a car and headed out west just a few months before she met Joel. The day after they met, Joel called Luke and said “I think I’m going to marry this girl I met last night, her name is Katherine.” What followed was a sweet, sweet story culminating in their wedding day this past weekend!

Since Joel + Kat met in Los Angeles, it was fitting that they married there. They both came to follow their dreams, and although that journey is underway, they weren’t expecting to find each other! We were able to spend several days exploring Los Angeles with them and after their wedding as well it is simply obvious that they belong there! They have such a strong community around them, it really warmed our hearts to see!

We started the day at Joel’s apartment where the girls got ready (and where Kat had to borrow some socks – you’ll see in a minute!) and made our way to the ocean for the ceremony at Wayfarer’s Chapel, a glass chapel nestled among trees on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Gosh, that place is GORGEOUS! And the view is astounding. It was a dream to photograph! After the ceremony we headed back to Joel’s apartment for a party on the roof. It was such a special day, and I’m so honored to know Joel + Kat – and also to have photographed their wedding!

From the photographer: Leah and Victor met and fell in love in Miami. When choosing a location for their wedding, they knew there was no place better for them than the beaches of Costa Rica. Victor was born and raised in Costa Rica, and the couple knew this would be the perfect place for their families to meet and celebrate together. After a sweet, intimate wedding the couple danced the night away under the stars on the beach with their closest friends and family. The couple even surprised their guests with a traditional Costa Rican comparsa band complete with dancers, drum circle, and stilt walkers to end the night.

Gerbera Daisy Themed Wedding in Naples Florida

When this bride submitted the details of her wedding, I could almost feel her enthusiasm bounce straight off my laptop. Ashley-Lyn and Adam celebrated a beautiful beach wedding in Naples Florida. But it certainly wasn’t your typical beach wedding with a palette of soft blues, neutrals or whites. In contrast, this fun couple with their passion for gerbera flowers and a love of bright green and black, decided to have a gerbera daisy themed wedding. As you’ll see, not only was this exuberant affair bursting with bright pinks, greens and vibrant oranges, but also overflowing with plenty of fun, laughter and gorgeous heartfelt details.

Bride Ashley-Lyn shares:

Wedding Theme

We wanted to make sure there were personal touches at all points throughout our wedding. I am from Florida and wanted a beach ceremony, with an indoor reception (Florida gets hot!). Our colors were Kelly green and black. My favorite flowers are Gerber daisies so I wanted an abundance of them, and figured with the Kelly green color, we could have every color daisy and it would be perfect for a bright spring wedding (we had 900 daisies to be exact!) I have a very creative family so they helped make everything! My aunt owns a local florist so she helped make my love for Gerber daisies come to life! From the bouquets, to the arch, lining the chairs on the aisle, the cake, head table, and all the centerpieces at the reception!

Wedding Style

One of my bridesmaids designed my wedding gown, which I could not have imagined to be more perfect!!

Ceremony Details:

My mom made the programs to resemble a fan to help cool you off if it got too hot on the beach. Each chair was draped with a cone filled with petals reading “When the newlyweds walk your way, toss the petals and shout hurray!” Also, made by my mom. Our ring bearer played the part of “ring security” perfectly with his safe box and glasses. Our flower girl walked down with a “here comes the bride” sign which got everyone amped for the grand entrance of me, the bride!! My dad is actually a pastor so he walked me down the aisle and then turned around and performed our ceremony!

Reception Details:

All of the place cards were made by my Mom, each with a paper daisy, and individual names. Our wedding favors were individual bottles of wine made specially by my in-laws for each guest! On each table we had 3 tears of flowers with high, medium, and low arrangements. Our table numbers were frames with 2 at each table holding pictures of the bride and groom at that age (ex. Table number 1 had a picture of each of us at 1 year old). My aunt made our beautiful cake and my aunt that did the flowers dressed it up with more Gerber daisies! My mom also made the cake runner displaying our monogram with wedding date.

Unique & Personalized Details

We wanted our reception to be fun for all so we planned many different surprises to keep the guests going! We even set the mood with bright green up lighting! The reception started off with a grand entrance from the bridal party, each being announced with 1 liners (ex. He still lives at home with his parents…the best man.. MATT KING!). We did the newlywed game, each having a bride and groom flip flop which was raised to answer the questions, which all of the guests thought were hilarious because we didn’t seem to get any question the same (ex. Who is the better driver) ! For our cake cutting we planned a “sneak attack” where we actually turned and smashed the cake in our best man and made of honors face! We had a slide show with pictures of us at all ages…and we even did voice overs leaving a special message for my dad and his mom before each of our dances with them.

We loved adding all of the personal touches and feel it made our wedding day. I wouldn’t have changed a thing!!!

Thank you Ashley-Lyn for sharing your magical day. We loved all the pops of colour and the ways you injected so much fun and personality into your wedding!

On the information sheet, when asked if there was anything I should know about the groom’s fiancee, he said: “Yes! She is totally awesome.”

Succulent Inspired Beach Wedding from Carrie Wildes Photography

You know when a beach wedding is in Florida, it’s already miles ahead in the stunning stakes. But when viewed through the lens of Carrie Wildes, it takes beach beautiful to an entirely different level. Inspired by succulents and classic “Tommy Bahama” style this beautiful beach soiree is decorated with green succulents, burlap details and white orchids from the flowers to the tables, from the cake to the favors and everywhere in between. With pure white sandy beaches, pretty blue bridesmaids in flowy dresses and organic decor which beautifully blends with the natural landscape, it can only be summed up with one word – fabulous!

From the bride Jennifer: I didn’t grow up fantasizing and dreaming about my wedding day, so I had no idea where to start after Jason’s sunset proposal on the lake near our home in Dallas, Georgia. Having lived in Tampa for years, it was Jason, actually, who had always dreamed of getting married at the Don CeSar Beach Resort in St. Pete Beach, Florida. The first time he took me there I knew it was the perfect place.

I knew I wanted to keep the decor and other essentials somewhat muted. I wanted the decor to flow with the ambiance and beauty around us. Comfortable, casual, classy and elegant. Those were the key elements in my vision. I believe that everything came full circle when I found the bridesmaids dresses – the movement of the crinkle chiffon WToo by Watters dresses in the stunning ‘Mediterranean Blue’ hue. They were a perfect example of how our color scheme and decor could perfectly complement the natural beauty around us. As the planning continued, our various vendors starting referring to our theme as “Tommy Bahama Rustic”.

I’m not a big fan of flowers, thus planning our centerpieces and bouquets was extremely difficult for me. I searched endlessly for ideas and always came up short! I knew I wanted all green and white to keep with the natural, simple elegance theme, but beyond that I was having a tough time describing the look I was going for. Jana Stall, with Events in Bloom, was absolutely amazing at translating my scatter-brained thoughts and ideas into beautiful, cohesive reality. Her exquisite use of stock, succulents, manzanita branches, and other “non-traditional” elements in the bouquets, aisle runners, cake decor and centerpieces completely brought our natural, beach rustic theme to life.

Aside from the floral decor, I knew I wanted to do the remaining details myself. (Who doesn’t love a good DIY project?) I wrote numbers on extra large, real sand dollars for our table numbers. For our table assignments, I found a fabulous antique window at a thrift store for $3. With a little sanding, paint, and chalk pens, we brought new life and purpose to the old window. I sent burlap to our wonderful Pastry Chef, Tara Bishop, at the Don Cesar to use on the cake. For our favors, we adorned burlap sacks filled with local salt water taffy with ribbon and sand dollars.

Although the inclement weather required us to move our outdoor reception indoors, we were lucky enough to have a break in the clouds to still hold our ceremony outside, facing the beach, at sunset, under a covered pavilion. The weather even allowed the sun to appear just in time to snap some amazing photos on the beach. I remember Sylense, our lead photographer, telling us we had maybe 5 minutes before the rain would start up again. We finished up just as it began to spring, and moved inside to eat, drink, and dance the night away among our closest friends and family. It was truly everything we could have ever dreamed of!

Thank you Jennifer and congratulations on a truly stunning beach wedding!

Bride Hayley Shares The Wedding Details

Wedding Theme:

Ever since I was young, I had always wanted to have a beach wedding. This was influenced by spending most weekends on the water or on my Dad’s boat. I wanted to find a beach not many people knew of, as well as one which wasn’t difficult for guests to access. I had spent a lot of time holidaying at Forster when growing up, so we went to Forster one weekend with my parents to stay at their holiday house and went looking for beaches. That’s when we found the beautiful Burgess Beach at Forster. It was the exact beach I had imagined I’d find.

Forster Beach Australia WeddingBeach Bridal Sandals BarefootCasual Beach Wedding AttireBeach Wedding Bouquet with ShellsDecorations & Flowers:

I wanted all of the decorations to be suited to the beach theme which I started by sending invites as a message in a bottle. I chose yellow for the bridesmaids because it’s such a fresh happy summery colour. My sister is a very creative florist and we worked together with coming up with ideas for the bouquets. I love my bouquet and still have it now. As it is mostly made of shells I could probably keep it forever. We created all of the decoration ideas ourselves to ensure they fitted well with our beach theme.

Wedding Style:

I wanted  a wedding dress which wasn’t your typical a-line wedding dress which would drag in the sand. So, I had an old family friend make my dress based off of several different photos I found on the Internet. Rick (my husband) isn’t one to dress up in a suit and decided he wanted to wear shorts. This idea took me awhile to get used to, but after we found the right pair teamed with the right shirts, I was more than happy with how the boys outfits looked. I also think the boys outfits went well the girls and the “fancy free feet” we wore on the day.

 Reception:

Rick and I have been together for 10 years, so we wanted to keep our wedding fairly relaxed and low key. We didn’t want to let small details stress us out (like I had seen other people do). We just wanted an enjoyable day. We also wanted to make our wedding different to every other wedding we had attended as guests. To keep with the relaxed theme we decided to have the reception at my parents holiday house, which my dad had spent a lot of time fixing up. My husband Rick finished rebuilding his silver Torana just before the wedding so we could use it as our wedding car. His apprentice who owns the white Torana in the pictures could not wait to use his Torana as a wedding car as well.

Highlights:

The day before the wedding the weather was some of the worst I had ever seen. The wind was howling and the rain was pelting down. Luckily, overnight the rain stopped, but we were still left with a very strong wind. Thankfully our little Burgess Beach was well protected by the surrounding hills and we only had the odd gust of wind to pick my veil up and wrap around my head (lol). The day was such a happy, fun day and everyone who attended said they had never been to such an enjoyable wedding. I think if anything the strong wind gusts made the day quite memorable (hehe). I am so happy with the way we did everything and I wouldn’t change a thing. It was definitely like they say “the best day of our lives!”  I was so lucky to have Bella as our photographer as well. I have known Bella since 1996 and would not of trusted anyone else to photograph and capture our wedding day the way she did.

Elegant San Diego Beachside Wedding by The Youngrens

Usually when you think of beach wedding you don’t think ‘elegant.’ But this stylish affair by The Youngrens manages to beautifully combine a classy seaside wedding with all the typical elements of the beach. Perched atop the grand Pacific Terrace at L’Auberge Del Mar with sweeping views of the Pacific ocean, Carly and Travis celebrated their stunning seaside ceremony and cocktail hour whilst watching the sun set. The lovely ladies at Jolie Fleur and Alison of L’Auberge helped design all the elegant details including sand dollars for the tables (named after the couple’s favorite locations in San Diego), a lovely peach, navy and grey colour palette for the flowers and bridesmaids, and delightfully delicious starfish clad cupcakes for dessert. Guests were treated to gourmet cuisine and the soothing sounds of a string quartet whilst taking in the stunning ocean views. It’s easy to see how this elegantly understated wedding with it’s soft and pretty details took a typical beach theme and transformed it into one romantic classy affair.Beach Wedding ReceptionBeachside Ceremony SettingBeachside BridePeach and White Wedding DecorWedding Aisle DecorBeachside WeddingString QuartetBeach Themed WeddingBeachside Wedding DecorationsSand Dollars Wedding TableSan Diego Wedding CoupleNavy, Grey and White Wedding ColoursSan Diego Beachside CeremonyPeach and White Aisle DecorPeach and White Ceremony FlowersBeachside Wedding CuisineBeachside Wedding TableNavy and White Wedding PaletteBeachside Wedding ReceptionBride and Groom Chair DecorSan Diego Beachside WeddingBeach Cupcake DessertBeachside Wedding Venue San DiegoDel Mar San Diego WeddingWedding Couple Sparklers

From beautiful bride Carly:

What was your wedding vision?

My vision for our wedding was a celebration of love – not just between Travis and I, but also our two families and groups of friends coming together for the first time. In terms of decor, I knew I always wanted to keep things simple. I dreamt of getting married in Del Mar for many years so having Seaside Park and the Del Mar coastline as the backdrop was plenty decoration on its own.

What inspired your wedding theme, colors and decor?

Del Mar is where I was born and where Travis and I started dating, so even though we weren’t living there, we knew that the location should be the theme. Peach is my favorite color and peach roses are my favorite flower, so those two components had to be in the decor. I looked on the internet to find colors to compliment peach and found a picture of a man in a navy tux with a silver vest and a peach boutonniere – the three colors together are elegant and summery without being too bold – just perfect for me! One of my favorite decoration elements was my version of a “table number.” Each table was named after a famous San Diego beach! My mom, sister and I went to a seaside decor shop and found large sand dollars to write the names of the beaches on. For party favors, we provided our guests with chocolates from Chuao, a San Diego-based chocolatier.

What do you feel made your wedding unique?

In honor of the many friends and family who flew in from North Carolina for the wedding, I came up with a recipe for a white wine sangria made with Century Table White Wine from the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. It was a delicious surprise at cocktail hour which our guests loved!  Something else very special to us was Travis’ Uncle Jim was our officiant.

Did you include any DIY or personalized details?

The party favors we assembled by hand. My mother-in-law is very handy in the craft department so she made the adorable little “C & T” tags that adorned our chocolates. Our biggest DIY project was actually our wedding invitations. It was a group effort between my Mom, my mother-in-law, my sister and myself. My sister designed the wording, my mom hand painted roses on each invitation and my mother-in-law cut, assembled and packaged everything. They were truly small works of art!

What was your biggest challenge?

I had two major challenges – the first was planning a wedding from out of town. I currently live in Honolulu, HI and trying to coordinate everything from here was difficult at times. Due to tight finances, I could only make two trips to San Diego in the year before the wedding – so I couldn’t have pulled it off without my “Moms” and my wedding coordinators! The other challenge was my husband was deployed during most of the planning process. He left in January of  2011 and didn’t return until 10 days before the wedding! While it was wonderful he put his faith in me to make a lot of decisions, it was really hard some days not having him around to ask him if I was doing the right thing, if we should spend more money here or there, etc. Again, without the support of my family, I couldn’t have pulled it off.

What were your favorite moments?

I can’t pick any one moment – there were too many favorites! I loved that my best friend of 20 years helped me put on my wedding shoes. I loved how I sat in the sun and enjoyed a mimosa (or two…) with my sister and cousins before getting ready. I loved how Mom woke up with me at 7 am the morning of the wedding and encouraged me to eat a big breakfast. I loved that Travis and I chose to do a First Look so we could spend time together before seeing anyone else.  I loved when I was taking pictures before the ceremony, I saw my college friends walking to our cocktail hour and they cheered for me from the street. I loved how a little girl I saw in the park said ‘I was the most beautiful bride she had ever seen.’ I love that I walked down the aisle to a string quartet playing the reprise of Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid and I love that my husband kissed me and spun me around during our first dance!

My wedding was truly one of the best days of my life so far and I could go on forever about it!

Thanks Carly for sharing with us the details of your beautiful day. Congratulations to you both!
