From the bride:

Our DIY projects included decorating all the vases and jars with lace, string and ribbon. We made the chalkboard signs out of old picture frames, the table numbers out of photo frames and used burlap from sacks to make the table cloths. A ll the table flowers, aisle flowers and bouquets we did ourselves (with a whole lot of help from a family friend who is a florist!). The map on the back of our invitations was designed by a great friend (www.elisemaree.com) and the rocky road favours were also hand made and packaged.

The little shoes on the top of our weddding cake is a special family heirloom, from my great grandparents wedding in 1923, then my grandparents wedding in 1954, and their golden wedding in 2004. my gramps sadly could not make it over from new zealand for the wedding, but he was very touched when he saw the photos of the shoes on our cake!

We walked down the aisle to ‘Godan Daginn’ by Sigur Ros, and our first dance was to ‘Perfect Day’ by Lou Reed. The first dance was probably the favourite memory of the day. I started the dance with James, then my Dad came forward to dance with me, whilst James danced with his Mum!  Our next favourite memory was the sudden storm we had right after the ceremony. The skies opened and it bucketed down. Everyone ran for shelter, but then it stopped as quickly as it started, so we could get on with the photos! It was an extra special day, as it was the first time my family have been together in a few years. My older brother had not even met James until a couple of days before the wedding – so luckily he gave his approval!

Tamworth Scottish Themed Wedding by Wanted Imagery

If you are all about classic style and rustic charm then you’ll fall head-over-heels with this beautiful wedding. Set in the gorgeous grounds of The Pavillion in Tamworth and featuring a Scottish theme (a nod to the groom’s heritage) it’s a delightful garden wedding brimming with joy. We are talking white blooms with pretty succulents, rich purple bridesmaid dresses with statement pearl necklaces, plaid kilts and countryside greenery for days. Not to mention the gorgeous bride and her handsome groom, who are so darn cute! All the romance and fun is photographed by the wonderful Wanted Imagery who now has me dreaming of Edinburgh Castle, the Isle of Skye, and hagis…(ok, maybe not hagis – ew!). Enjoy.

From the photographer: This wedding was a dream to photograph. A stunning bride, good looking groom, amazing bridal party, and a day full of emotions, excitement and just good fun. Not to mention all the behind the scenes details which brought this amazing day to life. Chris’s family who have Scottish heritage (hence the kilts!) live in New Zealand. Whilst Amber’s family live on property near Quirindi and Chris and Amber live in Newcastle – hence the reason for getting married in Tamworth.  Chris’ three brothers were his groomsmen, whilst Amber had her sister, sister in law, and close friend/new cousin! (I love close bridal parties). At the ceremony, Amber walked down the aisle to bagpipes playing and at the reception, the groomsmen, Chris’s Dad and friends, surprised everyone (especially Chris and Amber!) with an amazing rendition of the Haka. So loud….so awesome! Chris also surprised Amber and sang her a song…. and he was good! All the decor was DIY and made by Amber, her mum and sister. Their decorations made the already beautiful Pavillion in Tamworth, just that little extra special (all that Pinterest time does pay off!)

Coffs Harbour Wedding at Villa Vivante from David Moore Photography

David Moore Photography has captured our hearts with this incredibly beautiful Coffs Harbour wedding held at the Villa Vivante on the pretty NSW coast. With a dreamy colour palette of sky blue, whites and pastel pinks, mismatched bridesmaids in elegant flowing gowns, and a stylish bride who is not only beautiful to behold, but mesmerizing with her poignant emotion – it’s a swoon-worthy outdoor soiree with a panoramic views that will take your breath away.

From the photographer: Duncan & Sheree travelled from Brisbane, QLD to be wed surrounded by family & friends at the picturesque Villa Vivante just north of Coffs Harbour in NSW. One of the most striking images from the wedding is a close-up of a beautiful single tear running down Sheree’s cheek after she saw her father’s reaction to her dressed in her bridal attire. Of the details Sheree tells me that the “bridesmaid dresses & ties were by Anna Campbell a Melbourne designer. I picked up my dress off the rack in a little bridal store in Sydney called Rosa Wedding. Also all of our earrings were by Paula Hall, a Brisbane jewellery designer who made everything custom and from scratch”. The mix of colours in the flowers were decided upon in collaboration with floral designer Di Patterson of Freelance Flowers.

Hunter Valley Wedding at Willow Tree Estate by Hilary Cam Photography

Hunter Valley Wedding Couple

There is nothing quite as lovely as a relaxed Hunter Valley on a late Friday afternoon. So when newlyweds Sam and Julie gathered with close-knit family and friends for a destination wedding at Willow Tree Estate in Pokolbin, it was bound to be a success. Hilary Cam Photography captured the sun setting over the simple outdoor ceremony, the beautiful surrounding vineyards and even the odd kangaroo or two. But even this gorgeous setting couldn’t upstage the all the love and warmth radiating from this heart-felt affair!

Beautiful bride Julie shares: Sam and I moved from Brisbane to Sydney two years ago for Sam’s work. On Valentine’s day 2011 whilst on holiday in Bora Bora, Sam asked me to marry him. I’m embarrassed to say I grabbed the gorgeous diamond ring and put it on my finger before I said yes, yes, yes.

I was always interested in a destination wedding and with Sam’s family based in Canberra and my family based in Brisbane it made perfect sense. We wanted a relaxed, fun day with good food, good wine and great scenery to celebrate with family and friends. The Hunter Valley ticked all the boxes. We spent a couple of Saturdays driving around looking at different venues and immediately liked Willow Tree Estate.

We chose to book the entire estate which sleeps up to twenty guests. We were able to have the bridal party and our brothers and sisters all stay at the venue for the two nights. The estate has seven large rooms and a Summerhouse suite for the bridal couple. The other wedding guests all stayed at surrounding hotels and bed and breakfasts. The night before we all enjoyed wine tasting at Keith Tulloch Estate and a really lovely dinner at The Muse Kitchen restaurant.

Before we knew it our wedding day had arrived and luckily the weather was perfect. Our photographer Hilary Cam has an option to photograph the groomsmen getting ready as well as the bridesmaids so your album looks more balanced. We are so glad we took him up on this option because he got some great pictures of the guys getting ready, playing bocce and drinking local beer Blue Tongue. The bridesmaids took over the Summerhouse suite and sipped champagne while curling hair, applying make up and enjoying lots of giggles. Raylee at Willow tree took care of everything including organising a lunch platter delivered to our room.

The outdoor ceremony was held in the gardens at Willow Tree Estate. My Dad walked me down the aisle towards a beaming Sam. The celebrant Robyn Baker was great and calmed our nerves almost immediately. The ceremony was really beautiful and we exchanged the vows we had written ourselves. When Robyn announced we were husband and wife the guests cheered and we shared a magical kiss.

After lots of photos we joined the wedding guests celebrating on the large deck to enjoy the great food and wine the Hunter Valley has to offer. The reception was catered by staff from The Verandah Restaurant. The food was amazing. Anyone who has eaten at their restaurant located at The Calais Estate knows what we are talking about. We had a great view across vineyards towards the mountains and the gardens were all in full bloom and beautiful. The speeches were witty and heartfelt before cake cutting and then we danced into the night.

In the planning stages I was up in Brisbane one weekend and I went bridesmaid dress shopping with my two sisters. They convinced me to try on a wedding dress because I was just going to order one online. The first dress I tried on was beautiful and it brought tears to my sisters eyes. I bought it on the spot. We found dresses for Clare and Kara just as easily. I ordered the flowers and the cake online. A couple of emails with photos of colours, etc was all it took. I have other friends who were also planning weddings and couldn’t believe I hadn’t tried the cake or seen the flowers before the big day. Everything worked out perfectly and I couldn’t have been happier. Sam and I prepared the Place card menus – featuring a photo of the island where we got engaged – and Mum made the wedding invites. My sister did my Hair and make up. Everything was really professional and guests were surprised when we said who had done what.

I would definitely recommend a destination wedding as we were able to bring everyone together in a great setting where we could relax and celebrate together. We have amazing photos which we will cherish forever. And it feels absolutely wonderful to introduce the love of my life as my husband.

Congratulations Julie & Sam! Thank you for sharing your beautiful day with us.

Held in the beautiful Southern Highlands of NSW and photographed to perfection by Tim Coulson, it is a stunning portrayal of an eco-friendly wedding in natural bush surrounds. Lovely bride Harriet Goodall, a sculptural basket maker, creates her designs from the surrounding bush, beaches as well as rusted farm salvage, and her talent and eye for detail is evident throughout this whole lovely outdoor affair. Bride Megan sharesBoth Jurgen and myself prefer to stay clear of formal occasions so we wanted our day to be relaxed, easy and most of all fun.

The biggest challenge was finding the venue, it took weeks of searching to find something that wasn’t too casual but wasn’t too formal either. As soon as we saw Awaba House and met the team, the decision quite quickly made itself. With just 75 guests, we were able to do both the ceremony and reception on site which allowed everyone to enjoy the amazing views of Lake Macquarie and made for an exceptional photo backdrop.

The most memorable part of the day was walking down the isle. To Jurgen’s surprise, I walked down to ‘You are my Sunshine’ as I frequently sing to him very loud and out of key – he assures me he likes it but my singing voice certainly leaves much to be desired. A close family friend MC-ed for us and had given our guests bells to ring as we were introduced. It was nice to know that they were in fact ‘there with bells on’.

Our driver Hilton also deserves a mention, as he is truly one of a kind and added so much character for our journey to and from the venue. He arrived early to pick us up and I spotted him across the room eating a piece of cake and chatting with my grandparents as though they were old friends – a very special man. Laughable moments were my Dad suggesting that I was ‘easy to raise’ and Jurgen’s version of how we met (his side of the story is certainly more fiction than fact). Also, Bella (our photographer) did an absolutely amazing job and certainly deserves far more recognition than we could ever give her!

Looking back, there isn’t a thing I would change. Everyone we worked with was absolutely amazing. The memories and photos we have will ensure our children and grandchildren are bored with every aspect of the day in years to come.

Congratulations Megan and Jurgan on your fabulous wedding and a big thanks to Bella for all the beautiful images.

Bride Hayley Shares The Wedding Details

Wedding Theme:

Ever since I was young, I had always wanted to have a beach wedding. This was influenced by spending most weekends on the water or on my Dad’s boat. I wanted to find a beach not many people knew of, as well as one which wasn’t difficult for guests to access. I had spent a lot of time holidaying at Forster when growing up, so we went to Forster one weekend with my parents to stay at their holiday house and went looking for beaches. That’s when we found the beautiful Burgess Beach at Forster. It was the exact beach I had imagined I’d find.

Forster Beach Australia WeddingBeach Bridal Sandals BarefootCasual Beach Wedding AttireBeach Wedding Bouquet with ShellsDecorations & Flowers:

I wanted all of the decorations to be suited to the beach theme which I started by sending invites as a message in a bottle. I chose yellow for the bridesmaids because it’s such a fresh happy summery colour. My sister is a very creative florist and we worked together with coming up with ideas for the bouquets. I love my bouquet and still have it now. As it is mostly made of shells I could probably keep it forever. We created all of the decoration ideas ourselves to ensure they fitted well with our beach theme.

Wedding Style:

I wanted  a wedding dress which wasn’t your typical a-line wedding dress which would drag in the sand. So, I had an old family friend make my dress based off of several different photos I found on the Internet. Rick (my husband) isn’t one to dress up in a suit and decided he wanted to wear shorts. This idea took me awhile to get used to, but after we found the right pair teamed with the right shirts, I was more than happy with how the boys outfits looked. I also think the boys outfits went well the girls and the “fancy free feet” we wore on the day.

 Reception:

Rick and I have been together for 10 years, so we wanted to keep our wedding fairly relaxed and low key. We didn’t want to let small details stress us out (like I had seen other people do). We just wanted an enjoyable day. We also wanted to make our wedding different to every other wedding we had attended as guests. To keep with the relaxed theme we decided to have the reception at my parents holiday house, which my dad had spent a lot of time fixing up. My husband Rick finished rebuilding his silver Torana just before the wedding so we could use it as our wedding car. His apprentice who owns the white Torana in the pictures could not wait to use his Torana as a wedding car as well.

Highlights:

The day before the wedding the weather was some of the worst I had ever seen. The wind was howling and the rain was pelting down. Luckily, overnight the rain stopped, but we were still left with a very strong wind. Thankfully our little Burgess Beach was well protected by the surrounding hills and we only had the odd gust of wind to pick my veil up and wrap around my head (lol). The day was such a happy, fun day and everyone who attended said they had never been to such an enjoyable wedding. I think if anything the strong wind gusts made the day quite memorable (hehe). I am so happy with the way we did everything and I wouldn’t change a thing. It was definitely like they say “the best day of our lives!”  I was so lucky to have Bella as our photographer as well. I have known Bella since 1996 and would not of trusted anyone else to photograph and capture our wedding day the way she did.
