We love a bride who isn’t afraid to use colour and when it’s bright pops of pink and purple and pretty pastels stylishly mixed with black and white polka dot accents, well, we adore her even more. This pretty polka dot meets country garden theme includes fresh flower pomander balls decorating the aisle, cute pastel pink polka dot bridesmaids dresses, and a whimsical cupcake wedding cake. Add to that, a glorious outdoor location overlooking the beautiful Lake Macquarie in NSW, and you have one love.er.ly soiree. (Oh, and not to forget the groom’s Australian gumnut button hole . . . just GORG!) Lucky for us, Bella Photo Art was there to capture every pretty detail and left us only wanting more.
Bride Megan shares: Both Jurgen and myself prefer to stay clear of formal occasions so we wanted our day to be relaxed, easy and most of all fun.
The biggest challenge was finding the venue, it took weeks of searching to find something that wasn’t too casual but wasn’t too formal either. As soon as we saw Awaba House and met the team, the decision quite quickly made itself. With just 75 guests, we were able to do both the ceremony and reception on site which allowed everyone to enjoy the amazing views of Lake Macquarie and made for an exceptional photo backdrop.
The most memorable part of the day was walking down the isle. To Jurgen’s surprise, I walked down to ‘You are my Sunshine’ as I frequently sing to him very loud and out of key – he assures me he likes it but my singing voice certainly leaves much to be desired. A close family friend MC-ed for us and had given our guests bells to ring as we were introduced. It was nice to know that they were in fact ‘there with bells on’.
Our driver Hilton also deserves a mention, as he is truly one of a kind and added so much character for our journey to and from the venue. He arrived early to pick us up and I spotted him across the room eating a piece of cake and chatting with my grandparents as though they were old friends – a very special man. Laughable moments were my Dad suggesting that I was ‘easy to raise’ and Jurgen’s version of how we met (his side of the story is certainly more fiction than fact). Also, Bella (our photographer) did an absolutely amazing job and certainly deserves far more recognition than we could ever give her!
Looking back, there isn’t a thing I would change. Everyone we worked with was absolutely amazing. The memories and photos we have will ensure our children and grandchildren are bored with every aspect of the day in years to come.
Congratulations Megan and Jurgan on your fabulous wedding and a big thanks to Bella for all the beautiful images.
